For over 100 years, Massachusetts Maritime Academy has been preparing women and men for exciting and rewarding careers on land and sea. As the nation's finest co-ed maritime college, MMA challenges students to succeed by balancing a unique regimented lifestyle with a typical four-year college environment. As a member of the cadet corps you will live, study, sail, work and play in an atmosphere that encourages you to be your best.
Lady Buc Scholarship
MMA is celebrating 40 years of women on campus!
Forty years ago five brave women decided to do something that had never been done before; they entered the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. These strong women blazed a trail for hundreds that would follow in their footsteps and their efforts have changed not only the Academy culture but the Maritime industry as we know it. Women from all walks of life have been afforded tremendous opportunity (both personally and professionally) because of the profound act taken by five bold women forty years ago.
The Lady Buc Scholarship will benefit young woman at MMA so that future cadets can have the same opportunity we had. The Scholarship will support a female student each year in perpetuity (maybe more depending on what we raise):
- Good regimental and academic standing
- Involved in the community at MMA
- Demonstrates financial need.
So how do we do this? We raise $25,000.
Thank you to MMA Athletics for raising $3,500 from proceeds from the Women’s Athletics Golf Tournament (Save the date for next year, May 7 at Cummaquid Golf Club) to start us off! The goal is to get the scholarship endowed by the end of this Academic year so it can be given out for 2018-2019 school year!
Make your best gift today to support the Lady Buc Scholarship and Giving Tuesday! On the form select “other” and write in Lady Bucs Scholarship. Once you make your gift spread the word using social media using our givalanch which pops up once you make your gift.
Consider making a reoccurring gift. What is a reoccurring gift? It allows you to donate an amount you decide monthly that can ultimately amount to more than you might be able to give with a one-time gift. For example a gift of $50 a month would total $600 a year or $100 a month is $1,200 (you qualify for the Admiral Circle).
