Turning Tides
Turning Tides is the Academy's literature and arts journal. Current students, staff, and faculty are invited to submit pieces for publication each year. Submissions are selected for publication by the student editorial staff.

Archives
The Massachusetts Maritime Academy Archives preserves the institutional records, historical publications, and artifacts of the Academy dating back to its establishment as the Massachusetts Nautical Training School in 1891. The Academy’s records document its activities and operations, including the development of maritime education, to the present day.
Additionally, the Archives stores papers, materials, and publications of Academy alumni, as well as a collection of materials related to the history of the Cape Cod Canal, where the Academy has made its home since 1949.

Yearbook
Massachusetts Maritime Academy's yearbook, The Muster, is an annual collection of memories and portraits of the academic year. From cover to cover, the yearbook is designed and created by the Student Government Association's (SGA) yearbook committee, one of the longest standing student clubs on campus. The committee is comprised of underclassmen cadets and led by an upperclassman Editor.
The process to create The Muster begins in August with Pre-Orientation for the Cadre and Orientation for incoming Cadet Candidates, and concludes the following Summer with the commissioning and commencement ceremonies. Student photographers capture images of these events, among numerous activities and ceremonies held on campus throughout the year.
The Massachusetts Maritime Academy Archives holds volumes of The Muster for the years 1945 through 2023 (excepting 1948, 1970, and 1973). Many of these yearbooks have been deposited with the Library and Archives by the Commandant's Office, which oversees the SGA, while some Academy alumni have donated their personal copies.
Digital formats of The Muster yearbooks are available online at the Academy’s Internet Archive page, thanks to the Boston Public Library’s Digital Commonwealth program.
Academy Magazine
The Massachusetts Maritime Academy Magazine is an alumni magazine of the commonwealth’s leadership university. Please contact advancement@maritime.edu if you would like to be on the mailing list.
Distinguished Lecture Series
Demonstrating the importance of partnerships between industry professionals and our community, the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Distinguished Lecture Series was designed to expose cadets to the realities of life after MMA and provide real-world advice based on personal journey.
The Series invites selected individuals who represent the best of what the Academy aspires its cadets to become and who have achieved the highest levels of success as professionals representing any one of the Academy's seven major courses of study. During the visit, the lecturer will participate in a full day of activities including a presentation, informal discussions and a campus tour. The lectures are open to all cadets, faculty, staff, alumni and the local community.
Previous lecturers have included:
- Angela Chao
- Deputy Chairman, Foremost Group - A global shipping and transportation company, Angela is an expert on the shipping industry and U.S.-Chinese relations.
- Bill Cummings
- Founder, Cummings Properties, LLC - Local real estate magnate, philantropist, and author of "Starting Small and Making It Big: An Entrepreneur's Journey to Billion-Dollar Philanthropist".
- Admiral William J. Flanagan, Jr., MMA '64, H'96
- Retired United States Navy Four Star Admiral - Admiral Flanagan who served as Commander in Chief, U.S. Atlantic Fleet from 1994 to 1996. He is a highly respected businessperson, currently serving as President of Noragh Analytics and previous managing director of Cantor Fitzgerald.
- Matthew McCleery
- President, Marine Money International - International Marine Business advisor and author of The Shipping Man, a novel about a hedge fund manager's adventures in international shipping.
- Rear Admiral Dee L. Mewborne
- Commander, Military Sealift Command (MSC) - Currently in charge of Military Sealift Command and a United States Naval Academy graduate and naval flight officer with an MBA from Colorado State University.
- Sam Norton
- President & CEO, OSG Shipping - OSG is a leading provider of energy transportation services, delivering crude oil and petroleum products throughout the world. They own and operate a combined fleet of 24 modern vessels registered in the United States.
- Christopher J. Wiernicki
- Chairman, President and CEO, American Bureau Of Shipping (ABS) - Chris is a superb naval architect, engineer and businessperson.
