Get Involved
All cadets belong to the Student Government Association (SGA), whose mission is “to foster self-government among its members and promote cadet activities in the best interests of the cadets at the Academy.”
SGA Class Officers help organize specific class activities such as Ring Dance and Senior Social. Class Officers also arrange a class-sponsored “flash event” each semester. Activities range from deeply discounted tickets for professional sporting events, “giveaways,” tournaments such as Spikeball and Pickleball and campus-wide entertainment. Weekly game nights offer cadets the chance to win Amazon Gift Cards while playing Kahoot!, Bingo! or music trivia.
Boston Harbor Dinner Cruise
The Boston Harbor Dinner Cruise with HornBlower Cruises aboard the Spirit of Boston or Odyssey is a laid-back mix of dining, dancing, entertainment and views. The 3-hour dinner cruise departs from Boston's Seaport District.
Ring Dance
Ring Dance is a time-honored tradition at Massachusetts Maritime Academy. This elegant event is typically held at one of the premiere hotels in Boston. The cadets and their dates enjoy a plated dinner, dancing and an abundance of photo opportunities, including the arch of swords formed by the honor guard.
Senior Social
Senior Social is the Senior Class' final celebration together before graduation. Traditionally this event is held in late May at an off-campus venue. "Cape Cod Casual" attire allows for a relaxing night of light dining, dancing and an abundance of laughter.
Emery Rice Day
Emery Rice Day is a campus-wide celebration typically held the day before National Maritime Day in May. The event commemorates Captain Emery Rice, one of the most noteworthy alumni in the history of the Academy. The day is celebrated with food trucks, activities such as bubble soccer, campus-wide entertainment, a cookout, and music. Each year the SGA chooses a combination of activities to fill the day with fun.
