The Emergency Management program at Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA) equips students with the scientific and analytical foundation needed to effectively navigate emergency situations. Building on this foundation, the student chapter of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) at MMA connects members with a vast network of professionals, including practitioners, academics, first responders, and researchers, as well as over 6,000 IAEM members worldwide.

As the only student chapter in FEMA Region 1, MMA-IAEM provides exclusive opportunities for its members, such as participation in real-world emergency exercises, behind-the-scenes facility tours, industry conferences, and more. Additionally, student members can join IAEM at a reduced rate of $55, gaining full access to valuable resources and professional development opportunities. This includes the ability to earn a recognized certification and add a professional designation to their name—all while completing their studies at MMA.

Rugby Club at Massachusetts Maritime Academy is a fun and competitive experience to all. The club welcomes all levels of experience to the team. Rugby has a deep tradition of team building and leadership. These both are a key opponent to the club's structure and continued success. The Rugby Club on campus also has a very strong culture of winning while competing in the North Atlantic Rugby Conference. It is with a lot of hard work and discipline that we are also back to back Conference Champions of the league.  The Club competes in both Fall 15's and Spring 7's to allow for development of both styles of traditional rugby. The team is always competing in weekly games and weekday practices to develop the skills to win.

Since before the pandemic MMA Bible study has been a long lasting club on this campus. Originally founded by former Professor of history Ronald Smith And continued by his son the MMA Bible study as long offered students a way to further engage with their faith as well as support and create Fellowship. It is open to all cadets from those who are raised studying the Bible to those who are taking a first time interest in Scripture. We meet on a weekly basis for about an hour. The Unmanned Aircraft Club is dedicated to providing cadets with the knowledge and practical experience necessary to obtain their Part 107 license, enabling them to fly drones commercially within the United States. The club’s mission is to deliver a comprehensive learning experience, combining structured classroom instruction with extensive hands-on flight time, offering cadets the opportunity to hone their skills in real-world conditions over the bay. Additionally, the club organizes a variety of engaging drone activities designed to enhance both technical proficiency and operational understanding.

Members will gain valuable experience in key areas such as flight operations, drone maintenance, airspace regulations, safety protocols, and data collection. Whether you are new to drone flying or already have some experience, the club provides a supportive environment for growth. Through both guided learning and practical application, members will expand their expertise and build the necessary foundation to pursue professional opportunities in the rapidly growing field of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).

The club’s hands-on approach ensures that all members, regardless of their starting point, will leave with a well-rounded skill set that can be directly applied to the drone industry. The training and experiences offered are designed not only to prepare cadets for the Part 107 certification exam but also to develop them into competent, safe, and confident
