Responsibilities:
Serve as Marine Engineer for assigned projects concerning public vessels powered by steam, diesel, and gas turbines
Take ownership of technical software application issues brought by our customer base, engaging other teams (internal and external) when needed to drive resolution
Serve as a consultant to MSC Marine Engineers, working closely with all team members in the life cycle management (to include alteration and modernization) of assigned vessels
Assist MSC Engineers with development of engineering products necessary for vessel sustainment
Provides support and recommendations to the team support process workflows and tracking of various projects. This includes attending and supporting monthly project meetings, recording action items and tracking them to completion
Provides support for data reports, metrics tracking and trend analysis of data to the team
Assists with troubleshooting and/or training of users within the application for tracking projects and activities
Provides support for Software requirements writing of new features or defects and supports testing of developed software

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
If no degree, 12 years of equivalent technical experience in Naval Architecture, Marine or other Naval Engineering work and 4 years of commercial or Navy experience with maintenance concepts, programs and procedures
U.S. citizen and must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance
Ability to travel both domestically and internationally
Ability to climb ladders
Able to lift up to 50 lbs., sit and/or stand for long periods of time

Desired Qualifications:
Shipyard or Vessel life cycle management experience
U.S. Coast Guard license or equivalent international standard certification as an engineer
Experience developing preventive maintenance schedules and plans
Highly organized and Detail-oriented

The Department of Fish and Game seeks applicants for a Seasonal Fisheries technician to perform the following duties (from April to November):

The Access Point Angler Intercept Survey (APAIS) is part of the Marine Recreational Information Program (MRIP), a federal survey designed by the National Marine Fisheries Service. The survey is implemented by all Atlantic coastal states. The goal of the survey is to generate estimates of recreational fisheries catch for marine fish species in Massachusetts waters. Field staff, once trained, work independently traveling from home to assigned sites on the Northshore and in Metro Boston areas to interview anglers about their fishing experiences, collect a variety of information, and identify, weigh, and measure fish that anglers have kept. Assigned fishing sites include beaches, banks, piers, docks, jetties, and access points for private, charter, and head boats, including marinas, boat ramps and other points of entry to marine or estuarine waters. Head boat sampling occurs at sea. The estimates generated from this work are critically important for managing fish stocks and sustaining recreational fisheries. The incumbent will assist other MA DMF Program personnel with additional projects as needed.

Responsibilities include:

Successfully complete training and pass both a survey procedures test and fish identification test.
Survey recreational anglers and collect catch information including counts, measurements, and weights of fish both harvested and released.
Begin and end each 6-hour assignment on time.
Accurately record detailed data on electronic field tablets and data sheets.
Perform rigorous data review for quality control.
Complete, organize, and submit data and reports to supervisors in a timely manner.
Distribute outreach material while interacting with the angling public in the field.
Operate a motor vehicle to perform duties.
Assist other MADMF projects with conducting research when time permits.
Preferred Qualifications:

Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Outgoing and engaging personality. Individuals should be comfortable approaching and speaking with recreational anglers to obtain interviews.
Must have flexible availability and willing to work outside normal office hours (longer, earlier, later) due to tidal cycles, vessel schedules, and survey times. Ability to work any of the following 6-hr survey times: 8am-2pm, 2pm-8pm, and 11am—5pm. Most assignments occur from 8am to 8pm. Ability to work regularly on weekends and holidays (Friday is considered a weekend day). Qualified candidates must be able to work at least 16 hours each weekend.
Basic understanding of computer applications, the internet, and electronic touch-screen tablets.
Ability to work under challenging field and weather conditions: wind, rain, heat, and cold.
Ability to lift heavy fish specimens, both alive and dead.
Ability to work well independently and solve problems in the field.
Knowledge and familiarity with marine recreational fishing and fish species is a plus, but not required.
Remarks:

Must pass a survey procedures test and fish identification test following training, with at least 90% accuracy.
This position will require work on weekends, holidays and long hours.

2. The Mate should be HACCP certified. If not initially, then within the first 6 months of continuous employment.
3. Have at least 5 years of experience working in a Commercial Fisheries. Experience in a Federal Fishery of the North Pacific is preferred.
4. Competence in operations of Pilot House electronics common on larger fishing vessels. As example, Radar, Fathometers, GPS receivers, Auto-Pilot, SSB radio, VHF radio
5. Basic Computer skills, familiarity with Windows Office suite, particularly Excel and Word.
6. Of a reasonable physical fitness with no infirmities preventing the execution of the job description further described.

Job Description. It is understood that any prospective Mate will be allowed at least a one-month training trip to learn all aspects of the job described below:

1. As a Mate on board the catcher processors of Alaskan Leader Fisheries, they will be the second in Command of the vessel. The Mate will share Navigational Watches with the Captain of the vessel. During training the Mate will develop the skills for operation of the vessel during retrieval of the fishing gear (groundline) and deployment of the gear. The Mate will learn the operation of the Mustad Auto-line system.
2. The Mate will be the primary liaison in the command structure between the Pilot House and the vessel crew. The Mate will interface with department foremen as well as all crew in general. He will be expected to integrate and be involved with all aspects of the vessel’s fishing operations. This will be necessary to participate in the management of the crew and development of a disciplined, well-ran ship.
3. The Mate will assist and run safety drills with the crew of the vessel.
4. The Mate will develop the vessel Station Bills and Crew Roster and maintain these.
5. The Mate of the vessel will be the primary individual for the production and keeping of records and logs. These records will include all safety logs, Medical logs, radio logs and garbage logs daily sanitation and HACCP logs
6. The Mate of the vessel will be the primary liaison with the NMFS fisheries observer when on board. The Mate will be responsible for submitting all NMFS required daily reports on e-landings and the keeping of all regulatory required records.
7. The Mate will create internal company reports such as the Daily Production Report, Begin and End of Trip reports, the keeping of inventory records.
8. The Mate, in conjunction with the vessels QC and factory foreman will maintain daily QC work up, such as parasite logs etc.

2. The Captain will be responsible for maintaining order on the vessel and will work with the Mate as the primary liaison in the chain of command. The Mate will interface with department foremen as well as all crew in general. The Captain is expected to be in a hands on roll and involved and knowledgeable in the entire operation.
3. The Captain will be in command of the entire fishing operation and will make all decisions relating to the fishing operations on the vessel.
4. The Mate will develop the vessel Station Bills and Crew Roster and maintain these. The Captain will review and approve these documents.
5. The Mate of the vessel will be the primary individual for the production and keeping of records. These records will include all safety logs, medical logs, radio logs and garbage logs daily sanitation and HACCP logs. The Captain will review and be responsible to see all logs are accurate and current. The Captain will be responsible for compliance with all relevant Federal, State and USCG regulations.
6. The Mate of the vessel will be the primary liaison with the NMFS fisheries observer when on board. The Mate will be responsible for submitting all NMFS required daily reports on e-landings and the keeping of all regulatory required records. Again, the Captain will be responsible for review of these documents and will be the signatory of these documents.
7. The Captain in conjunction with the Mate and vessel QC personnel on the vessel, will be responsible for the execution of the fish plan provided by management and will be responsible for adherence to all company quality control protocols.
