Key Responsibilities:

­­­­­­­The Labor Relations Manager is responsible for promoting a positive, compliant, and respectful workplace across the APL Maritime, Ltd. (AML) fleet and shoreside operations. This role oversees cadet placement, grievance resolution, workforce development, and implementation of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment (SASH) and Every Mariner Builds A Respectful Culture (EMBARC) policies, while serving as a liaison to regulatory and industry partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Adhere to AML’s Integrated Management System (IMS), ensuring all duties align with company policies on safety, security, environmental protection, and ethics.
Serve as the Designated Employer Representative (DER) under the Company’s Drug and Alcohol Policy.
Act as AML’s primary point of contact for Sexual Assault/Sexual Harassment (SASH) matters, ensuring compliance with EMBARC standards.
Maintain relationships with MARAD, USMMA, USCG, and other industry stakeholders to align SASH prevention efforts.
Conduct audits, review reporting protocols, update training materials, and ensure timely correction of non-conformities.
Foster a respectful and supportive environment for cadets, including periodic onboard check-ins and records management.
Coordinate cadet assignments aboard company-managed vessels in collaboration with academies and internal departments.
Manage onboarding documentation, credential verification, and compliance with MARAD, USCG, and academy requirements.

Collaborate with vessel staff and union representatives to gather facts, ensure CBA compliance, and resolve disputes.
Prepare documentation for arbitration and support broader labor strategy through grievance trend analysis.
Maintain AML’s computer-based training (CBT) and evaluation platforms in accordance with IMS procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree required
10 to 15 years of documented success in the Maritime industry, preferably for a US Flag Operations, required.
Two to five years prior work experience directly related to the crewing of ships or vessel operations.

Plumber aboard Maine Maritime Academy‘s Training Ship State of Maine (TSSOM). Position reports to the First Assistant Engineer or their designee, during both underway and non-underway periods. The Plumber will assist with the planned maintenance and repair of the ship's black water, grey water, and potable water systems. Additionally, the ship’s plumber provides training to cadets during the annual sea term and during the academic year. • Is assigned to the vessel and as such participates in all deployments and sea terms
• Work closely with the Ship’s engineering officers and logistics coordinator with regards to parts and supplies needed for the maintenance and repair of water, drain, and sewage systems.
• Responsible for identifying and completing needed maintenance/repairs on applicable systems.
• Responsible for testing of completed repairs and communicating work performed to the First Engineer.
• Frequently supervise and train students of varying experience levels.
• Act as a safety observer during any evolution involving groups of students and completing permits to work, risk analyses, or other documentation required by Safety Management Systems.
• Perform all duties normally associated with a shipboard plumber.
• Responsible for objectively evaluating student performance in cooperation with the ship’s engineering officers.

DUTIES
• Performs duties directly relating to the maintenance and repair of ship’s auxiliary equipment including, but not limited to, wastewater treatment, air handlers, bilge water transfer and treatment, and freshwater generators. May be requested to assist with fuel oil transfer, maintenance/testing of fuel oil systems and any other assigned task.
• Assist with all engine and machinery overhauls as directed.
• Maintain records of repairs and testing using NS Enterprise maintenance and inventory tracking application.
• Make required entries into logs and records (i.e.: Oil Record Book.)
• Act as a work supervisor of students during maintenance functions.
• Mentor students in watch standing, maintenance, emergency response, and repairs within the parameters of the Safety Management System (SMS) and Chief Engineer’s standing orders.
