Marine Superintendent, Tankers - Florida

Our client, a leader in the transportation of liquid cargo is looking for a Marine Superintendent to join their team.

The Role
Vessel Operations Oversight: You would be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of tanker vessels under the ownership, ensuring that they adhere to international maritime regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.
Safety and Environmental Compliance: Ensuring compliance with all relevant safety and environmental regulations, including those set forth by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), flag state authorities, and port state control. Implementing safety management systems (SMS) and environmental management systems (EMS) onboard vessels.
Voyage Planning and Execution: Collaborating with ship masters and voyage planners to develop efficient voyage plans, taking into account factors such as weather, sea conditions, fuel consumption, and cargo requirements. Monitoring vessel progress and intervening as necessary to ensure timely and safe arrivals.
Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating risks associated with tanker operations, including but not limited to collision avoidance, grounding, cargo contamination, pollution prevention, and security threats.
Budget Management: Developing and managing budgets for vessel operations, maintenance, repairs, and dry-docking activities. Optimizing operational costs while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
Crew Management: Overseeing crewing activities, including recruitment, training, certification, and performance evaluation. Ensuring that vessel crews are adequately trained and competent to perform their duties safely and efficiently.
Maintenance and Repairs: Coordinating planned maintenance activities and repairs for vessels, ensuring that they are carried out in accordance with class society requirements and manufacturer recommendations. Managing dry-docking projects and ensuring that vessels are maintained to the highest standards of seaworthiness.
Communication and Collaboration: Serving as the primary point of contact between the tanker owner, ship management teams, charterers, port authorities, classification societies, and other stakeholders. Facilitating effective communication and collaboration to achieve operational objectives.
Continuous Improvement: Proactively identifying areas for improvement in vessel operations, safety practices, and efficiency. Implementing initiatives to enhance operational performance, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impact.
Emergency Response: Developing and implementing emergency response plans for various scenarios, including oil spills, fire incidents, medical emergencies, and security threats. Conducting drills and training exercises to ensure that vessel crews are prepared to respond effectively to emergencies.
The Person
Maritime Academy Graduate, 5 plus years experience preferred
Sailing time on tankers as Chief Mate/Master
Knowledge of both USCG and ABS regulations
Excellent communication skills
Must be currently authorized to work in the US, no visa or sponsorship at this time
