Operations Manager – Cruise and Commercial Maritime
We are looking for an experienced Operations Manager Cruise & Merchant to assist in building and managing our client’s US Cruise & Merchant service operations, with a focus on developing relationships with cruise operators, establishing service agreements, and optimizing resources to support regional goals. This role also plays a key part in aligning with European operations to expand local support and minimize intercontinental travel.
This position is based in Fort Lauderdale, FL or Norfolk, VA
Main Tasks And Responsibilities
Relationship Management and Service Agreements
Build and maintain relationships with cruise operators to develop service agreements covering equipment, including deck machinery, doors, and lifts.
Provide specialized maintenance services for cruise-specific equipment.
Collaborate with the European region to expand US-based support for Merchant activities, reducing the need for intercontinental travel.
Operational Management and Profit & Loss
Oversee the operational and financial performance of Cruise & Merchant services in the US, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
Optimize service offerings and resource utilization, including the strategic placement of Service Engineers based on demand patterns.
Monitor and report on financial metrics, ensuring cost efficiency and revenue growth within the defined budget.
Team Development and Skills Management
Recruit, train, and deploy a team of Service Engineers to meet customer demand in high-activity regions.
Develop annual training plans for each team member, ensuring up-to-date technical knowledge and skill enhancement.
Foster teamwork, motivation, and skill development, building a high-performing team to support the Cruise & Merchant business.
Business Development
Drive business development in collaboration with the Sales team, identifying new opportunities within the Cruise & Merchant sector.
Support the creation and execution of local business plans and action steps that align with strategic objectives.
Actively pursue customer relationship growth to secure new business and strengthen existing client relationships.
What You’ll Need To Succeed
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Operations, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
At least five (5) years of management experience within a relevant industry.
Proven skills in business development, service delivery, and team leadership, especially within the maritime, cruise, or merchant sectors.
Strong knowledge of QEHS policies and Maritime regulations, with the ability to ensure compliance with ISO9001, ISO14001, and OHSAS18001 standards.
Demonstrated adaptability, flexibility, and effectiveness in managing change and driving team performance.
Strong communication and negotiation skills
Knowledge of SAP
Commercial awareness
Understanding of Incoterms
Use of Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Drive etc.)
Ability to travel within the US
