FALL 2020 BOAT SALE
Massachusetts Maritime Academy is qualified by the Internal Revenue Service as a charitable organization. As such, the Academy is prepared to accept the donation of various marine-related assets, especially boats and trailers, allowing the donor a potential tax deduction. These assets are eventually made available to the public for purchase, primarily via the Academy’s annual Sealed Bid Sale.
The 2020 Massachusetts Maritime Academy Online Bid Boat Sale is significantly different than past bid sales. Carefully read the following information before bidding.
AVAILABLE FOR BIDDING
All available boats are published online. The list of boats can be found by clicking on Available Vessels in the dropdown menu on the left. All of the information we have available is included in the online listing. All bids must be based solely on the information contained in the online listing. We will not answer questions about the vessels via telephone or email.
BIDDING IN THE 2020 ONLINE BID BOAT SALE HAS CLOSED.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST AND SUPPORT.
The price listed with each vessel is either (1) the value determined by the Donor’s surveyor, or (2) the value determined by Massachusetts Maritime Academy based upon the boat’s current condition and in accordance with BUC and NADA valuation guides. The listed price is one a buyer might expect to pay were they to purchase the vessel from an ordinary retail boat seller. Although most of the vessels presented here for bidding do have an undisclosed reserve (the minimum amount for which the boat will be sold), the listed price is not the reserve. The Academy publishes the listed prices simply to put all bidders on a level playing field, informing every bidder of the Academy’s estimated retail value of the vessel. You are free to bid whatever amount is appropriate for you.
NO WARRANTIES OR GUARANTEES EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED
Boats are sold "AS IS, WHERE IS". The Academy makes NO representation as to the condition of the items for sale.
THIS IS NOT AN ABSOLUTE SALE
We retain the right to reject any and all bids. RESERVE prices are in effect on all boats except the 1985 Hunter 23' GOOD STUFF and the 1984 Tartan 28' ALLUSION.
Should no bid surpass the RESERVE price on a particular boat, the highest bidder will be contacted and the RESERVE price revealed in an invitation for the highest bidder to increase their bid beyond the reserve.
We will contact the highest bidder on each vessel on Monday, November 2, 2020, in order to schedule a time for them to inspect the boat. The inspection appointments will be scheduled for Friday, November 6, and Saturday, November 7, 2020 ONLY. The winning bidder will be allowed to inspect the vessel, after which they will either (1) purchase the vessel for their bid amount plus 6.25% Massachusetts Sales Tax, or (2) decline to purchase the vessel. High bidders are not obligated to buy the vessel after their in-person inspection. There is no penalty to the high bidder for not accepting the vessel after inspection.
HIGH BIDDER INSPECTIONS
All inspections will be scheduled for Friday, November 6, and Saturday, November 7, 2020, from 0800 until 1600, at our storage facility within the confines of Joint Base Cape Cod. Please plan your bidding accordingly.
Please note: Boats are stored within the confines of a U.S. military base. Arrangements must be made via the Academy (the point of contact and access chaperone) at least 48 hours in advance of scheduled access. High bidders who wish to inspect the vessel before completing the purchase MUST be prepared to submit to a Federal NCIC background check. High bidders and one guest (i.e., family member, surveyor, mechanic) are required to provide their driver’s license information and SSN to the Academy in order to be cleared by the Department of Defense to enter JBCC.
NO member of the public will be allowed entry to JBCC without prior government approval and a scheduled appointment. No member of the public will be allowed access to the Academy’s secured boat storage facility within the confines of JBCC without a previously-scheduled appointment.
COMPLETING THE PURCHASE
High Bidders will have 48 hours from the time of their in-person inspection to withdraw their bid. Otherwise, full payment must be made by Tuesday, November 10, 2020, and must be made via wire transfer, ACH transfer, or credit card. Instructions for payment will be given at the time of the in-person inspection. Massachusetts Sales Tax of 6.25% will be assessed and added to the purchase price of every vessel.
Should the high bidder fail to make full payment by 1600 EST on Thursday, November 12, 2020, the Academy will consider the bid withdrawn.
