Paramedic / EMT / Firefighter Positions

All Paramedic and EMT positions are also Firefighter positions. Massachusetts State Firefighter I/II training is preferred, but not required to apply. Applicants must be certified as a Paramedic or EMT at the time of application.

Fire Alarm Operator Positions

Fire Alarm Operators must possess both a Basic Tele-Communicator Certificate and an Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certificate.

Minimum Qualifications – Firefighter/Paramedic

Applicants must meet the basic qualifications for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic as established by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, including:

Be at least 19 years of age at the time of application

Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license at the time of application

Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.

Hold current certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic at the time of application

Be free of felony convictions

Successfully pass the Massachusetts Firefighter Physical Ability Test

Successfully pass a fitness and medical examination

Yarmouth Police Department Application

You are NOT eligible for employment with the Yarmouth Police Department if you have been convicted of a felony or if you have been dishonorably discharged from any military service.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

You must also meet the following qualifications in order to be considered for a position with the Yarmouth Department.

Age: Twenty-one (21) years of age at time of submission of the application

Education: You must be a high school graduate or possess a GED AND have a minimum of 60 College Credits or

Currently Serving Active Duty U.S. Armed Forces or

Honorable Discharge From U.S. Military Service Minimum 1 year of Duty or Full Time Police Academy Trained with 1 Year of Full Time job experience. Police Academy must be MPTC or equivalent.

License: Applicants must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, applicants are required to obtain a Massachusetts Class A License to Carry Firearms.

Residency: Candidates must be U.S. citizens.

Drug Testing: Candidates shall be required to submit to a drug test as part of the pre-employment medical examination.

Character Requirement and other factors: Candidates must meet the highest legal and ethical standards. Honesty and integrity are paramount to our profession. Candidates will undergo a rigorous background investigation before any offer of employment.

**SUMMER** Assistant Harbormaster

Under the supervision of the Natural Resources Director or their designee, Seasonal Assistant Harbormasters promote safe and environmentally friendly usage of the Town’s waterways, respond to marine casualties and enforce applicable state and local laws. This is a part time seasonal position with varying shifts and schedules. Work is primarily performed outdoors on boats, docks and town ways to water.

Duties:
Provide on-the-water presence
Responds and assists in emergencies and operates in coordination with additional emergency responders as required
Assists in marine search and rescue assignments
Provide information and hospitality for mariners, residents and visitors
Assists in maritime based special events and or evacuations as directed
Patrol and monitor waterways, piers and boat ramps
Assists in providing appropriate actions to safeguard the harbor and anchorages in all aspects. Assists with ATONS, PTONS, and maintenance of safety buoys
Assist in general maintenance of town owned vessels, docks, aids to navigation and equipment
Operate vessel and shoreside waste pumpout facilities
Carry out special projects as assigned
Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Written and oral communications, organization and planning skills, good social skills; operating boats, vehicles, tools and equipment safely and effectively
Follow complex written and oral instructions. Clearly and effectively communicate with others, maintain accurate records, and provide information and assistance to the public. Good powers of observation and memory. Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions, work independently and prioritize tasks, work effectively under time constraints, swim, and deal with the general public tactfully, appropriately, and in a positive manner. Ability to work irregular shifts, including weekends, holidays and evenings

Requirements:
High school diploma or GED (additional marine education is desired)
Valid MA divers license
CPR and First Aid certification preferred
Harbormaster Training Academy Certification desired, if available
Sound decision making and problem-solving skills
Seamanship Skills: boat handling, towing, search and rescue, rigging, repair and maintenance
Ability to enforce rules and regulations impartially
Ability to handle emergencies and adversarial situations in a calm and professional manner
Basic computer and office administrative skills

Working Conditions:
Moderate, with occasional strenuous physical effort required of duties performed in the field with frequent exposure to adverse weather conditions
Has frequent contact with other Town departments, members of the boating public, fishing, and hunting communities, the Coast Guard, local, state and federal agencies, and the general public. Contacts and communications are by phone, correspondence, and in person and frequently require significant resourcefulness and persuasiveness to influence the behavior of others
Employee works both indoors and outdoors
Employee frequently lifts up to 30 lbs., and occasionally lifts up to 100 lbs., sometimes repetitively
