Applying as an International Freshman

Students are considered a freshman if you plan on attending straight from high school. To be considered for admission to Massachusetts Maritime Academy, please provide all the items on the Application Checklist by April 15th, 2019.

Application Checklist:

International Student Application    Affidavit of Support

  • Download and complete the International Student Application and Affidavit of Support
  • Submit application fee of US $50.00 (check or money order)
  • Photocopy of the name page in your passport and any previous US visas (if applicable)
  • Official transcripts – high school and any college/university with English translations.
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Personal essay of at least 300 words on why you want to attend Mass Maritime or subject of your choice
  • ACT or SAT (Institution code 3515)
  • Submit test scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

Applying as an International Transfer
A student who has been enrolled into another college/university is considered a transfer student. Students must meet the transfer requirements listed below to be eligible for consideration:
  • Students must have 12 transferrable college credits or above from an accredited college/university and must be awarded within 6 months of applying to Mass Maritime OR
  • Students must complete 24 or more transferrable college credits with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale)
Students must successfully complete the following courses prior to enrollment at The Academy:
  • Mathematics
  • Chemistry with a lab
  • English Composition
 
Additional recommended courses:
  • Western Civilization
  • Calculus I
 
*Please note, not all credits may transfer. Transfer credits will be evaluated by the Registrar’s Office. The amount of credits awarded will be on a course-by-course basis depending on applicability to the Academy's curriculum. Students must earn a 2.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) or above in each individual course for it to transfer.
