No, we do not require a test of physical ability as part of admission. If applying to a Coast Guard licensing program there may be some requirements for licensing. (Obtaining a license as a 3rd mate or 3rd engineer is a Coast Guard requirement for graduation from the Marine Transportation and Marine Engineering majors. There are some medical conditions that prevent the Coast Guard from granting a medical certificate, which is needed to obtain a license. More information regarding disqualifying medical conditions can be found in the Merchant Mariner Medical Manual or by calling MMA Health Services or MMA Mariner Credentialing.) Students can also expect to participate in PT as cadets and during orientation.

If you complete your application for Early Action, you will receive your decision by holiday break. Otherwise, you can expect to receive a decision within approximately 2 weeks of completing the application.

Students are not able to apply undecided. When submitting an application, you will need to select a 1st and 2nd choice major. You will be reviewed for your 1st choice major, and pending academic qualifications and space availability, you may be then admitted to your 2nd choice major.

No, interviews are not required unless specifically requested. If you would like to meet with an Admissions Counselor to discuss your application, or ask questions, you may request one by emailing admissions@maritime.edu.

Yes, we offer merit and need based scholarships to incoming students. These do not require an additional application. You will be reviewed and awarded these scholarships as part of your application to the Academy. Additional scholarships/grants may be awarded through Financial Aid, and if eligible, you will be notified.
