How do I submit my application?

You have two options! You can apply using our institutional application on our website or via the Common App. International students must apply via the Common App! 


How do I submit supplemental documents for my application?

Your personal essay can be uploaded directly to your application portal after you have submitted your application. Official high school transcripts and letters of recommendation should be submitted directly by your high school via email (preferred), mail, or Naviance. If you plan to submit test scores, official scores should be requested/sent via College Board or ACT.

IS MASS MARITIME TEST OPTIONAL?

Yes! If you are applying for Spring 2023 or Fall 2023, you will have the option to apply with or without the ACT or SAT. For more information, please review our Test Optional Policy.
 

Paying the application fee is a hardship for my family, can I get a waiver?

We do offer fee waiver codes for our application. Please contact Admissions at (800) 544-3411 or admissions@maritime.edu for more information.
 

Do you super score test scores?

Yes, we super score SAT’s; meaning if you take the test multiple times, we will take your highest individual subject scores and combine them to give you the highest overall score.
 

Can I submit more than 2 letters of recommendation?

We require 1 letter of recommendation to complete an application, however, you can submit up to 3 letters to be uploaded to your file.
 

What does my application essay need to be written about?

Your essay should be, at minimum 300 words, discussing the most important reasons for wanting to attend Mass Maritime. However, if there is another topic you feel strongly about writing on, you are more than welcome to do so.
 

Is foreign language required for admission?

Yes, we require 2 consecutive years of foreign language in high school. Waivers may be available in certain circumstances.

 

 

How do I monitor the status of my application online?

Your application status can be checked through your application portal. It will show in real time once a supplemental document has been received and uploaded to your application. Once all items have been received, your application will be marked as completed and will be moved to a counselor for review.
 

Are there any physical requirements?

No, we do not require a test of physical ability as part of admission. If applying to a Coast Guard licensing program there may be some requirements for licensing. Students can also expect to participate in PT as cadets and during orientation.
 

When will I be notified about my admission decision?

If you complete your application for Early Action, you will receive your decision by holiday break. Otherwise, you can expect to receive a decision within approximately 2 weeks of completing the application.
 

Do I apply to a specific major or can I apply undecided?

Students are not able to apply undecided. When submitting an application, you will need to select a 1st and 2nd choice major. You will be reviewed for your 1st choice major, and pending academic qualifications and space availability, you may be then admitted to your 2nd choice major.
 

Are interviews required for the admission process?

No, interviews are not required unless specifically requested. If you would like to meet with an Admissions Counselor to discuss your application, or ask questions, you may request one by emailing admissions@maritime.edu.
 

Do you offer scholarships?

Yes, we offer merit and need based scholarships to incoming students. These do not require an additional application. You will be reviewed and awarded these scholarships as part of your application to the Academy. Additional scholarships/grants may be awarded through Financial Aid, and if eligible, you will be notified.
 

How can I submit my enrollment deposit?

You can submit your $400 non-refundable enrollment fee online, or if paying by check, please make it out to MMA and note the student ID number in the memo portion. These can be mailed to Admissions.
 

May I defer my admission once admitted?

Written requests for deferment can be sent to Admissions, (admissions@maritime.edu). These are handled on a case-by-case basis.
