Counselor Resources

Welcome to the academy!

Located along the Cape Cod Canal, Massachusetts Maritime Academy offers a hands-on, STEM focused education designed to prepare students for in-demand careers.

While our history is based in the training of Merchant Mariners, we have grown to offer students the opportunity to earn their U.S. Coast Guard license, prepare for careers in land-based careers in the maritime industry, or pursue non-maritime careers in fields such as environmental sustainability, emergency planning and preparedness, facilities and energy management, and more.

The Academy offers seven majors in Marine Transportation, International Maritime Business, Marine Science, Safety, and Environmental Protection, Emergency Management, and three Engineering programs: Energy Systems, Facilities, and Marine Engineering. All students participate in hands-on learning experiences such as our annual sea term, co-ops, experiential learning courses, internships and civic engagement. The ultimate goal: preparing cadets for a career. Cadets gain knowledge and experience during their undergraduate studies that affords them the opportunity for immediate employment after graduation.

The Academy also includes the unique experience for students to be members of the Regiment of Cadets. The Regiment includes high standards of conduct, regimental-style uniforms, and structured days. While all students participate in the Regiment, they do not carry any military service obligation. The Regiment is balanced with NCAA and ECAC Division III athletics, as well as clubs, club sports, and intramurals.

As we navigate the year ahead, we'll keep this page current as possible so you can feel confident in using it as a centralized resource for information. Thank you for your dedication and commitment to your students, and we look forward to working with you!

Our undergraduate admission counselors would be happy to chat with you about your students, or answer any questions you may have.

  • Official SAT or ACT scores - Optional

Transcripts and letters of recommendation can be submitted via email (admissions@maritime.edu), Naviance, Common App, or mail.

*Please note, due to technical restraints, we are unable to attach documents to a specific student file prior to the student’s application submission. If we receive documents before the application is submitted, we do store them, then manually attach them to the application upon submission. If your student receives an email about missing documents when you have already submitted them, please feel free to reach out to us directly, or have the student reach out to us, to ensure this transfer of documents was not missed.

Personal interviews are not a requirement of most applicants. We do offer and encourage applicants to schedule one if they have questions they would like to discuss, or information they would like to share with the admissions team! Interviews may be specifically requested of certain applicants based on their profile and those students will be notified by their counselor.

Students are automatically evaluated for merit scholarships during the application review process. These scholarships are based on a recalculated, weighted GPA. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $15,000, based on GPA and residency.

School Counselors FAQs

How do I submit my student’s transcript, or other documents?

You can email documents to admissions@maritime.edu, Naviance, Common App, or via mail.

Do you require precalculus or calculus for applicants?

Precalculus or calculus courses at the high school level are not required for admission, but are highly encouraged. It is a requirement that students take math all fours years of high school, however, any course that is considered a math credit at your high school will meet this requirement. If students are able to take precalculus or calculus as a senior, we do recommend it, as it is most in line with the curriculum they will be in at the Academy.

Is foreign language required for admissions?

Students are required to take two consecutive years of a foreign language to meet course requirements for admission. However, if the student has attended a vocational technical high school, or has been exempted from foreign language at their high school due to a documented learning difference, this requirement will be automatically waived. If there is another reason a student is not meeting this requirement, they should connect with their admissions counselor to discuss options. American Sign Language is counted as a foreign language.

My student is on free/reduced lunch, can he/she receive an application fee waiver?

Yes, please contact Admissions for more information.

Can I schedule a group visit?

Unfortunately,  due to health and safety protocols we are not offering group tours at this time.

Can I visit campus as a counselor to learn more?

Yes, you are more than welcome to hop on one of our daily campus tours. Typically they are offered Mon-Fri at 10:00AM and Mon-Thurs at 2:00PM. Please call/email our office so that we can add you to the schedule.
