Assistant Ship Superintendent

Objective: Support the Ship Superintendent in coordinating and managing ship repair projects. Assist in daily shipboard supervision, documentation, material coordination, and quality control to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist the Ship Superintendent with daily shipboard supervision, coordinating craft labor, subcontractors, and vendors
Interpret and distribute drawings, work packages, and specifications to foremen and trades
Track and document work progress, labor hours, and material usage for daily reporting
Identify and document change orders and scope deviations
Assist in coordinating material and equipment needs with the Yard Superintendent and Purchasing
Participate in safety inspections, hot work permits, and daily toolbox talks
Assist with quality control by verifying completed work against project specifications
Communicate effectively with project managers, ship superintendents, foremen, and craft labor
Support the preparation of progress reports, daily logs, and closeout documentation
Act as a backup to the Ship Superintendent as needed for meetings, inspections, and customer interactions
Qualifications:

2–5 years of experience in ship repair, marine construction, or similar industrial fieldwork
Working knowledge of shipboard systems, ship repair methods, and marine construction practices
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, work specifications, and production schedules
