Fall Accepted Students Checklist

Class of 2030

Congratulations, you've been accepted to Massachusetts Maritime Academy! You're about to join a community of students who are driven and who will inspire you to explore rewarding opportunities, pursue your passions, and obtain a one-of-a-kind educational experience.

This page was created as a reference guide to use alongside your Accepted Student Status Portal in order to provide an overview of the required steps, deadlines, and key information to help you become a Buccaneer.

Many of the required checklist items below are time sensitive and all of them need to be completed prior to your attending orientation.  Be sure to check this page regularly as additional content will be added over the next several months.

We're Here to Help
After reading through the checklist below, if you have questions please refer to the contact information box to contact the department directly. Additionally, your dedicated Admissions counselor is available to help you navigate through the enrollment process.

To apply for financial aid, students must complete a Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year.  Priority deadline for incoming students is March 1. The form can be found at www.studentaid.gov

All students can monitor their financial aid status through the Massachusetts Maritime Academy self-service portal.

You will receive information regarding how to access this portal via email shortly after you receive your acceptance packet from the Office of Admissions.  In addition to viewing your financial aid application status, you can also view missing documents, review/accept your financial aid offer, print your financial aid offer letter, complete all necessary steps to finalize your aid and view important information regarding your financial aid offer as well as financial aid policies.

If you have been awarded any outside scholarships be sure to notify the Office of Student Financial Services, either by reporting it under the ‘REPORT/VIEW OUTSIDE AWARDS’ link, or by sending written notification directly to the Office of Student Financial Services.

Questions regarding Financial Aid should be directed to 508-830-5042 or finaid@maritime.edu

Massachusetts Maritime Academy prides itself on its technology resources, all of which you will need to successfully transition to life as a cadet. You will receive an email with your account login information within 10-14 business days after your admissions acceptance decision has been released,  at which point you can access the Tech Prep page and complete your next steps.

Questions regarding Tech Prep, MMA email, and Student Self Service can be directed to our IT Service Desk at 508-830-5308 or servicedesk@maritime.edu

International students are supported by our Capt. Paul Cuffe Global Institute and your dedicated Admissions Counselor from time of acceptance through time of arrival to campus to ensure all pre-enrollment requirements are met.

Please work through each item as outlined in the Accepted Student Fall To Do Checklist,  keeping in mind a few differences:

  • Deposit and Offer of Acceptance due by 4/15
  • Placement Exam and US Coast Guard DOT 5 panel drug test will be arranged in coordination with your early arrival to campus, before Orientation check in.

Once you have set up your technology, log into the Self Service Portal and follow the link for Student Finance.  Once on the landing page, in the upper left corner you will find a link for MY ACCOUNT.  There are a number of items you can complete prior to seeing your bill in late June/early July.

If you want a parent (or other individuals) to receive emails when your billing statement is posted in Self Service, you should send a Payer Invitation so they receive the same emails you receive when a new billing statement is posted, as well as receive their own log in credentials to access your bill through the parent payment portal.

You are also encouraged to enroll in the Direct Deposit Electronic Refund, allowing us to deposit any refunds directly into your bank account, rather than wait a few weeks for us to cut and mail you a check.  Even if you are not expecting any type of refund, you are encouraged to set this up, just in case.

Questions regarding setting up information in Self Service Student Finance can be addressed by calling 508-830-5400 or by emailing student_accounts@maritime.edu.

Questions regarding logging into Self Service can be addressed by contacting the IT Service Desk at 508-830-5308.

International Students will take the Accuplacer exam upon arrival to campus prior to Orientation.

Pre-Enrollment Drug Test Program

Massachusetts Maritime Academy is committed to maintaining a drug-free and safe educational and work environment. In accordance with U.S. Department of Homeland Security regulations (46 CFR, Part 16)—enforced by the United States Coast Guard (USCG)—chemical testing is required for merchant marine personnel to ensure compliance with this standard. All incoming students, regardless of major, must participate in the pre-enrollment drug testing program.

Testing Requirements
  • You must submit proof of a negative drug test completed within six (6) months prior to Orientation check-in.
    • A negative dilute result is not considered valid.
      • Students who receive a negative dilute must retest by July 15.
      • A second negative dilute may result in the revocation of your admission offer.
  • Testing must be conducted between February 24 and July 1.
  • International students and U.S. citizens living abroad will test upon arrival to campus for orientation.
  • Tests must be completed at a federally certified laboratory authorized to perform US Coast Guard DOT 5-Panel drug tests.
  • Physician-ordered or pediatrician-administered drug screenings will not be accepted.

Important Notice for USCG Licensed Track Majors (Marine Engineering & Marine Transportation)

The USCG (DOT) strictly prohibits any drug use, including both recreational and medicinal marijuana. If a Marine Engineering or Marine Transportation student tests positive for any substance, they must report it to the USCG, which will review infractions on a case-by-case basis. A positive test result may affect your ability to earn your license.

How to Set Up Your Drug Test
  • Pay for and schedule your drug test via your Status Portal. Do NOT confuse this with the current student drug screen payment option in Self Service.
  • The Academy’s preferred provider is Quest Diagnostics, which has nationwide locations.
  • After payment, you will receive an email within 1-2 business days containing your Quest Diagnostics QR Passport. The passport ensures you will receive the proper type of drug test and that MMA will automatically receive your results.
  • Bring this QR Passport to your pre-scheduled appointment at a federally certified Quest Diagnostics lab.
  • Failure to complete your drug test by the deadline may result in your admission being rescinded.
