SS Velma Lykes, a Maritime Administration (MARAD) subsidized break bulk cargo C4 freighter, laid down at Avondale Industries in New Orleans, Louisiana
1967
SS Velma Lykes launched and delivered to Lykes Brothers Steamship Company for Far East operations
1979
SS Velma Lykes becomes the first US flag vessel to dock in the mainland Chinese port of Whampoa since the Chinese Communist revolution
1985
Velma Lykes, along with her four sister ships, acquired by MARAD and upgraded for use in the Ready Reserve Force (RRF)
Velma Lykes renamed Cape Bon
1991
Cape Bon activated for operation Desert Storm during the Persian Gulf Crisis
2001
Cape Bon moved to Buzzards Bay to replace the TS Patriot State
2003
Cape Bon converted to a training ship at bender Ship Repair in Mobile, Alabama
Cape Bon delivered to the Academy and christened TS Enterprise on National Maritime Day
2004
TS Enterprise departs for Sea Term 2004 under the command of Captain Thomas Bushy
2009
TS Enterprise renamed to honor Senator Edward M. Kennedy, President John F. Kennedy, and members of the Kennedy family
2012
TS Kennedy activated to support FEMA in response to Hurricane Sandy
2016
Michael J. Campbell became Master of the TS Kennedy in a Change of Command ceremony
2017
TS Kennedy activated to support hurricane relief in Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico
2023
TS Kennedy departs on her final Sea Term as Massachusetts Maritime Academy’s training ship
