**SUMMER 2026**
The officers of Patriot State seek motivated cadets to serve in paid Watchstanding and Maintenance Assistant positions. Cadet pay is $15/ hour and benefits include reduced room and board rates in the dorms for the summer. Housing on campus will be available for shipboard cadets from the end of the spring semester until the start of the fall semester without blackout dates.
Watches will be 8-hour shifts for safety and security, 24/7 on Patriot State. Weekdays are 1600-0800, Weekends and Holidays are around the clock. A rolling watch bill will be created to evenly distribute watches.
Maintenance will be divided by major or area of interest into deck and engine departments to assist ship’s crew with preventative maintenance, repairs, and improvement projects.
All cadets who are employed on the ship for the summer are required to stand at least one paid watch over the weekend of Aug 1-2 during Pan-Mass Challenge. Cadets may also be required to stand paid watches onboard Patriot State in Boston on the weekend of July 10-12. Cadets will be given the opportunity to accumulate additional sea time on transits between Buzzards Bay and Boston for Sail 250 (July 9-16) and during the annual Orientation Mini Cruise (~Aug 25-27).
We welcome cadets who are taking summer classes or who otherwise have non-traditional schedules during the summer.
Want to earn extra money on the weekends? Sign up for a weekend watchstanding role with no commitment for weekday work.
Please send an email to express your interest to either Chief Mate Andrew Perron (aperron@maritime.edu) or Chief Engineer Laura Wilcox (lwilcox@maritime.edu). Include your expected availability to include what days of the week and hours you are available.
