Engineer (Full Time)

Heger Dry Dock, Inc. (HEGER) is looking to recruit a full time engineer to work on the design, engineering and inspection of waterfront structures, primarily dry docking facilities that are comprised of various types of structural, mechanical and electrical components and systems.

HEGER provides high quality customized design and engineering services to the shipbuilding & ship repair industries, with regard to steel floating dry docks, graving dry docks and transfer-launch ways.

HEGER has been a subject-matter-expert in the dry docking industry for over 25 years, with primary clientele servicing the US NAVY, US Coast Guard, Military Sealift Command, and various Offshore Support, Commercial & Cruise vessels.

HEGER’s office is located in the Metrowest Boston area; however field work requires travel to shipyards along the US coasts, Alaska, Hawaii and some international locations.

Responsibilities include:

Assistance with design and analysis of new steel structures that require directing and assisting the production of design level drawings and details.
Quality control reviews of similar work performed by other engineers and/or subcontractors.
Fieldwork jobs that involve inspections of waterfront facilities to survey the condition of structures and prepare reports. Such inspections require travel to the shipyard facilities, typically as a team. Fieldwork tasks range from 1 to 4 days at site, excluding travel days; and no more than 2 such tasks per month average.
Inspections tasks require engineers to take thorough field notes, photos (when allowed), perform supporting calculations, interact with subcontractors (if any) or clients, write detailed reports, prepare repair lists and sometimes also provide clients with technical advice to improve the condition or capacity of the surveyed structures.
Office work and field work will be a 60%-40% split (approximately).
Required Qualifications:

US citizenship required, including a current US Passport
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Marine Engineering, or Naval Architecture
0-3 years of experience in analysis and design
Proficiency with MS Office products (Excel/Word/PowerPoint)
Experience with using Autodesk products (AutoCAD/Revit)
Ability to perform fieldwork, including but not limited to climbing structures and inspections in confined spaces
Desired Qualifications:

Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
Licensure as a P.E. (Professional Engineer) in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Marine Engineering, or Naval Architecture
Proficiency in using Autodesk products (AutoCAD/Revit)
Experience with using finite element analysis programs
OSHA 10-hour safety training card
