Quality Control Manager

The ideal candidate for this position is a skilled multi-tasker, reliable, committed to quality and consistently meeting deadlines.

General Duties

 Manage daily operations of QC department and personnel, including training and evaluation

 Conduct water testing of voids in hull

 Perform vacuum testing of welded seams

 Carry out dye-check testing for aluminum, carbon steel and stainless steel.

 Test the welding of structures, water tight seams, tanks, etc.

 Work with management and department personnel to improve existing procedures and develop new

quality procedures as needed.

 Oversee usage and maintenance of all QC equipment and measuring devices. Ensuring these devices

are properly utilized, calibrated and maintained

 Work with management to develop a Quality Plan for each project

 Coordinate schedule with outside inspectors such as USCG and Classification Society Inspectors

 Document and track all quality inspections including paper documents

 Supervise personnel engaged in final inspection and testing activities

 Investigate causes of quality problems identified at inspection, manufacturing, final QC inspection and

after delivery

Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:

 Knowledge and understanding of welding Aluminum, Steel and Stainless Steel (welding skill

beneficial)

 Knowledge and understanding of welding with MIG-TIG and stick (welding skill beneficial)

 Knowledge and understanding of plumbing and electrical systems

 Ability to read, understand, and implement weld schedules is essential

 Ability to work in a team environment is essential

 Excellent verbal and written communication skills

 Ability to read blueprints and pay exceptional attention to details

 Capability of distinguishing good/bad/poor quality

 Ability to multitask and complete work independently is crucial

 Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills

 Able to use and read micrometers, calipers, multi-meters, and other measuring devices

 Must be able to look over construction of a hull or superstructure and determine if the pre-fabrication is

done correctly and according to specs which is determined by the Blueprints or Fitters Guide Book.

 Knowledge of Microsoft Office products

 Working knowledge of QC software is a plus

Physical demands

Candidate must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to lift, carry and transport

equipment and boxes. Able to work on and climb ladders, bend, stoop, crawl and work aboard ships both in

the shipyard and on the water. Ability to work under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Must be

capable of wearing all required personal protective equipment and work in a noisy and physically demanding

environment.
