Position Summary:
The First Assistant Engineer (1AE) supports the safe and efficient operation of the vessel’s Engineering Department. This position assists the Chief Engineer in the maintenance, operation, and repair of propulsion and auxiliary systems. The 1AE serves as a senior engineering officer, stands engine room watches, and responds to engineering requirements both underway and in port in accordance with the vessel’s operational schedule.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Serve as a senior member of the Engineering Department, supporting the Chief Engineer in the management of shipboard machinery and engineering operations.
Perform repairs, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and monitoring of propulsion systems, power generation equipment, auxiliary machinery, and engineering support systems as directed by the Chief Engineer.
Serve as the alternate onboard representative to the Second Mate as required by vessel operations or departmental coordination needs.
Stand assigned engine room watches (Duty Engineer) in accordance with the vessel’s watchstanding schedule and operational requirements.
Respond as the on-call Duty Engineer when the vessel is in homeport, following the established rotational watch bill.
Ensure engineering logs, maintenance records, and equipment reports are properly maintained and submitted as required.
Uphold all safety, environmental, and regulatory standards for engineering operations.
Assist with training and oversight of junior engineering personnel as directed.
Perform other duties as assigned to support safe, reliable vessel operation.

Requirements & Qualifications:

Valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with STCW endorsements meeting: Chief Engineer/Second Engineer Officer of 3,000 kW (4,000 HP) or More.
Valid Medical Certificate meeting USCG standards for engineering service.
Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
Must possess or be eligible for a United States Passport.
Must meet physical and medical requirements for shipboard engineering duties, including the ability to work in confined spaces, climb ladders, and lift equipment.
Strong technical and mechanical skills with the ability to diagnose and repair shipboard systems.
Ability to stand rotating watches and respond to engineering emergencies as required.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work as part of an engineering team.
Must meet all company and contractual requirements.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Position Summary:
The Chief Engineer shall serve as the Head of the Engineering Department on the TSVRON training vessels, responsible for directing propulsion and equipment operations and maintenance. This role ensures the safe operation, care, maintenance, and repair of all propulsion and auxiliary machinery, as well as mechanical and electrical equipment within the Engineering department.

OT estimated to be 44 hours per week underway.

8 Hours per day in port

12 Hours per day UW

Duties and Responsibilities:

Direct the propulsion and equipment operations and maintenance.
Direct the actions of the Engineering department personnel, including repair, maintenance, and watch standing duties.
Direct the Engineering department's participation in drills, deck operations, and all hands evolutions (e.g., stores loading).
Direct and supervise the proper operation, care, maintenance, and repair of propulsion and auxiliary machinery, and mechanical and electrical equipment assigned to the Engineering department.
Inspect maintenance and repairs accomplished by shore personnel on equipment assigned to the Engineering department.
Ensure fresh water is taken on at each port of call to the maximum practicable.
Anticipate Engineering department material and supply needs, prepare and submit requisitions, and ensure effective use of fuel and consumables.
Ensure adequate security measures and safety precautions are strictly observed by Engineering department personnel and non-organic maintenance personnel.
Inspect the operation of all Engineering department safety equipment.
Perform daily inspections of the engine/auxiliary room and Engineering department safety equipment.
Check the engine room bell book and log to ensure completion of columnar data and proper entries in accordance with instructions.
Comply with all current environmental protection measures and notices.
Ensure an adequate and effective Engineering department on-the-job training program is conducted.
Assign work associated with departmental "call-out".
Stand engine room watch as assigned per operational requirements.
Participate in a "Duty Engineer" watch bill that may require attending to the vessel outside of regular work hours, including weekends and holidays.
Conduct scheduled visits to the ship when in an unattended status, and/or respond to an alarm condition or loss of power.
Establish a rotational watch bill which will identify the Duty Engineer.
Will require after-hours availability in emergency or mission-critical situations.
Provide contact information to the Government for after-hours reachability.
Post an in-port watch bill for a duty engineer no later than one (1) week prior to execution of assigned watches.
Be on call to respond to emergencies after hours when the TSV is in Lay Up status.
Other duties as assigned.

U.S. Coast Guard license/certificate requirements: STCW Requirements: Chief Engineer 3,000 KW (4,000 HP) or More; OICEW; RFPEW.
Secret clearance.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must possess a valid United States Passport.
Must be able to acquire and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
Must be able to acquire and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
Must be computer literate in Microsoft Office and shipboard monitoring and maintenance software.

The Chief Mate is also the training officer responsible for training all personnel in their duties for ship replenishment, emergencies, and execution of safe navigational practices. This role serves as the damage control officer responsible for the preparation of station bills, maintenance of fire detection systems, and maintenance of firefighting and lifesaving apparatus. Additionally, the Chief Mate is the security officer responsible for force protection, physical security of government property, and security awareness for classified documents and materials. The Chief Mate is the safety officer responsible for Deck department safety meetings, presenting progress reports of safety items and recommendations, maintaining a safety library, and advising personnel and department heads of current safety procedures and developments.
