Dear Campus Community: In compliance with the “Timely Warning” provisions of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act of 1998, the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Department of Police & Public Safety is giving notice of an alleged sexual assault that occurred on.campus in the dorm complex.
MMA Police remind members of the college community of the following:
- Sexual assault is non-consensual activity, ranging from unwanted touching to forced intercourse which can include sexual contact with someone who is impaired by alcohol, drugs, or any other intoxicant that impairs their judgment. If either party is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, consent cannot be given.
- Always seek verbal, sober, and clear consent. Immediately stop sexual advances if the other person indicates no interest or if they say “no.” Consent to one sexual act does not imply consent to another. The absence of “no” does not mean “yes.” Pressuring or coercing someone into engaging in sexual activity is sexual assault.
- If you are ever in a situation where you are unsure or scared, call MMA Police immediately at (508) 726-0798 or 911.
- If you witness a situation that appears unsafe or makes you uncomfortable, intervene if it’s safe to do so, elicit help from a friend, or go to a safe area and call for help.
- If a friend seems too intoxicated, get him or her to a safe place immediately.
- Seek medical help immediately if a friend starts to exhibit symptoms of dizziness and/or nausea, memory loss, breathing or motion difficulties, or is acting disproportionately intoxicated relative to the amount of alcohol.
According to the regimental manual, any retaliation or harassment of a person reporting crimes will be considered a Class 1 offense within the disciplinary system.
Massachusetts Maritime Academy students, staff, faculty, and visitors on campus are encouraged to report all suspicious persons or incidents, however minor, to the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Police immediately at (508) 726-0798 or 911.
CAMPUS SECURITY AUTHORITY (CSA) REPORTING FORM
All Emergencies Dial: 911
The CSA Report form is intended to provide CSAs with a method of reporting Clery crimes to the Division of Public Safety for inclusion in the Academy’s annual compilation of Clery statistics.
The CSA Report is NOT a method of notifying police of an emergency, dangerous situation or other hazard. The submission of the CSA Report will NOT prompt a police investigation or generate an official police report or case number. In the event of an emergency call 9-1-1. If you need police to respond to take a routine report call (508) 830-5060.
Public Safety personnel evaluate each CSA Report to determine if the incident reported requires the publication of a Timely Warning Notice or Emergency Notification to the campus community.
The intent of a Timely Warning Notice or Emergency Notification is to enable members of the campus community to protect themselves and aid in the prevention of similar crimes. It is critical that pertinent information is provided as soon as it is available.
Please provide as much information as possible on the CSA Report. However, the inclusion of personally identifiable information (complainant’s name, suspect’s name, etc.) is not required, but the inclusion of such information, if known, may assist the University in providing services and eliminating the possibility of double-counting incidents.
The Academy makes many resources available to victims, survivors and witnesses of crime at no cost. If you would like to learn more about these resources, have questions about this form, or would like assistance completing this form, please contact the Clery Compliance office at (508) 830-5060 or by email at cslattery@maritime.edu

The collection of this information is required by the Higher Education Act and the Clery Act. This is NOT a report for the purposes of initiating a criminal investigation.
