Vessel Operator
Reports To: Director of Chartering & Commercial Operations
Education:
Maritime graduate or Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Transportation, Marine Engineering, Logistics, or a related discipline. Or a combination of formal education and equivalent experience
Experience
Minimum of 5-7 years in operations in the chemical tanker market with previous experience managing a chemical operation team
Strong knowledge of Charter Party terms and conditions.
Ability to manage and complete multiple tasks and competing priorities.
Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment with little supervision.
Works well within a team of other fast-paced individuals.
Ability to support operations during and outside of normal office hours.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in chartering operations.
Time at sea on chemical tankers. Proficiency with Voyage Management Systems (Veson).
Technical operations experience in tank cleaning and wall washes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This is an exciting opportunity to join an established Jones Act tanker owner/operator in their commercial group. Duties and responsibilities Duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Operational Management
-Prepare voyage orders, sailing instructions, and other items to ensure efficient operations
-Negotiate and manage tug/agent contracts, purchasing bunkers, and slop vendors
-Maintain Voyage Management System (Veson) regularly to ensure accuracy and reliability
-Work with charterers to coordinate voyage operations and communications
-Monitor the financial performance of voyages and act to improve the same
-Review and approve various voyage-related invoices
-Provide technical operations experience in tank cleaning and wall washes
Commercial & Chartering Activities:
-Collaborate with charterers to plan optimal voyage routes, taking into account factors such as weather, cargo specifications, and fuel consumption
-Support business development tasks by assisting with the preparation of proposals and quotations
-Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers to understand their needs and provide tailored solutions
-Assist in monitoring market conditions and assessing their impact on the company’s chartering strategies
-Help identify and mitigate potential risks associated with chartering activities, including issues related to vessel quality, insurance, and geopolitical factors
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
-Collaborate closely with operations, chartering, fleet, and accounting departments
-Support operations during and outside of normal office hours as required
