The Ship Superintendent will be responsible for managing the successful completion of assigned ship repair projects within predetermined time constraints and funding parameters. They will manage the production of all personnel assigned to the ship repair project through coordination with trade supervisors, and subcontractors. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Successful candidates will

Receive and interpret vessel specifications, work orders, blueprints, contracts, technical publications and ensure that trade supervisors order required materials in a timely manner to ensure that the project is completed within the prescribed time frame.
Participate in client/contractor meetings and resolve client engineering and management project issues.
Proactively resolve all problems that cannot otherwise be resolved by assigned craft supervision, as well as working with the customer, subcontractors, and other departments to keep a minimum of interferences and distractions from impacting the progression of work.
Coordinate the work processes of all production trades through trade supervisors to ensure that they perform their portion of the vessel repair project in a timely and safe manner.
Continuously review the manning requirements and work scope for the project, and make any necessary changes and revisions based on project completion time requirements.
Coordinate the documentation and distribution of condition reports generated by trade supervisors during the course of the repair project.
Supervise and direct the activities of all manpower for each project to ensure that work is accomplished to owner and regulatory body satisfaction, and within predetermined time constraints.
Confer with vessel owner/Port Engineer to address any changes encountered during project activities and determine how to reallocate manpower to accommodate modifications.
Inspect completed installations and observe operations for conformance to design and equipment specifications, and operational and safety standards.
Responsible for ensuring that all personnel adhere to safety rules and regulations.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; college degree in a related Engineering discipline required; Maritime college degree and/or domestic or international maritime license preferred; along with a minimum of eight to ten years of related ship repair experience and training. Experience with the US Coast Guard is a plus. Strong verbal and written skills required, along with proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite including but not limited to Outlook, Excel, Word, and Microsoft Project.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to fifty pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than one hundred pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Use of personal protective equipment such as respirators, hard hats and safety footwear required while on work sites. Work will involve visiting work sites both indoors and outdoors at all times of the year.
