Requirements.
1. Must hold at minimum a Merchant Mariners Credential of Captain – Uninspected Fishing Vessel 1,600 GRT, near Coastal. Must hold endorsements of Radar observer, Marine Fire Fighting, Survival craft, Fishing Vessel Drill instructor, Em medical, Marine Radio Operator Permit.
2. Have at least 10 years of experience working in a Commercial Fisheries with at least 5 years as either a Captain or Mate. Experience in a Federal Fishery of the North Pacific is preferred. Applicant must have at minimum two years experience as Captain of a Long-line vessel or five years as a Mate. At least two years experience on a Catcher- Processing vessel is required. Equivalent experience may be considered upon review of applicant resume.
3. Competence in operations of Pilot House electronics common on larger fishing vessels.
4. Basic Computer skills, familiarity with Windows Office suite, particularly Excel and Word.
5. Of a reasonable physical fitness with no infirmities preventing the execution of the job description further described.

Job Description. It is understood that any prospective Captain will be allowed at least a one-month training trip to learn all operational aspects of command of the Alaskan Leader vessels

1. As a Captain on board the catcher processors of Alaskan Leader Fisheries, they will have command of the vessel and will be the ultimate authority on board and responsible for the safety and well being of the crew and vessel. The Captain will share Navigational Watches with the Mate of the vessel. During training the Captain may develop further the skills for operation of the vessel during retrieval of the fishing gear (groundline) and deployment of the gear and operation of the Mustad Autoline system.
2. The Captain will be responsible for maintaining order on the vessel and will work with the Mate as the primary liaison in the chain of command. The Mate will interface with department foremen as well as all crew in general. The Captain is expected to be in a hands on roll and involved and knowledgeable in the entire operation.
3. The Captain will be in command of the entire fishing operation and will make all decisions relating to the fishing operations on the vessel.
4. The Mate will develop the vessel Station Bills and Crew Roster and maintain these. The Captain will review and approve these documents.
5. The Mate of the vessel will be the primary individual for the production and keeping of records. These records will include all safety logs, medical logs, radio logs and garbage logs daily sanitation and HACCP logs. The Captain will review and be responsible to see all logs are accurate and current. The Captain will be responsible for compliance with all relevant Federal, State and USCG regulations.
6. The Mate of the vessel will be the primary liaison with the NMFS fisheries observer when on board. The Mate will be responsible for submitting all NMFS required daily reports on e-landings and the keeping of all regulatory required records. Again, the Captain will be responsible for review of these documents and will be the signatory of these documents.
7. The Captain in conjunction with the Mate and vessel QC personnel on the vessel, will be responsible for the execution of the fish plan provided by management and will be responsible for adherence to all company quality control protocols.
