For over 100 years, Massachusetts Maritime Academy has been preparing women and men for exciting and rewarding careers on land and sea. As the nation's finest co-ed maritime college, MMA challenges students to succeed by balancing a unique regimented lifestyle with a typical four-year college environment. As a member of the cadet corps you will live, study, sail, work and play in an atmosphere that encourages you to be your best.
Future Women Leaders in STEM
The goal of Future Women Leaders in STEM is to spotlight current female high school sophomores or juniors who have demonstrated excellence and leadership in one or more of the following areas: science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
As a leader in STEM education, MMA offers challenging and experiential curriculums. Furthermore, MMA realizes its role in promoting the advancement of women in science, technology, engineering, and math. To enhance these efforts, I have enclosed the Future Women Leader in STEM Award nomination and reception information in hopes you (or a colleague) will find time to nominate a student deserving of this esteemed recognition.
To be eligible to receive the FWL in STEM Award, candidates must:
- Be a female enrolled in her sophomore or junior year at a private or public high school,
- Demonstrate excellence and leadership in one or more STEM disciplines, and
- Possess a minimum GPA of 3.3.
Students may receive the FWL in STEM award and a scholarship to our Sea, Science, and Leadership Program. Of those students, the top three recipients will be awarded the Future Women Leader Scholarship upon enrollment at Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Fall 2020 or 2021. This scholarship pays a minimum of full tuition (in-state equivalent) for one year and recipients must be in attendance at the award ceremony to receive the FWL Scholarship.
Congratulations to the Junior Women Leaders in STEM 2018!
