Associate Consultant
Safety Management Systems, LLC (www.smsllc.com) is seeking an Associate Consultant to join our Maine-based maritime consultancy. As an Associate Consultant you will be mentored by a highly experienced team of technical experts serving a wide range of commercial and public vessel operators throughout the U.S.
SMSLLC was founded in 1996 and serves and ever-growing number of vessel operators in all major industry sectors. We provide leading professional maritime consulting services to improve safety, operations and compliance in three major service areas:
1. Management system development and implementation.
2. Assessment and audit of organizations, systems and processes.
3. Technical advisory regarding regulatory and commercial compliance.
We maintain close relationships with clients and stakeholders including trade associations, classification societies, and U.S. Coast Guard to provide trusted support that is well-informed and consistent with current industry thinking.

Applicants must have strong interpersonal skills and the successful candidate will be assigned to project teams supporting management system development and implementation tasks.

• Ensure deliverables are of the highest quality and exceed client expectations
• Collaborate effectively on multiple projects and tasks as assigned
• Maintain confidentiality of company and client business, processes, documentation and data
• Maintain customer oriented focus on all engagements
• Maximize personal productivity on all assigned tasks
• Assistance to maintain project plans and schedules
• Develop high quality end-user focused process documentation
• Perform internal audits and reviews
• Develop and provide training and presentations
• Analyze data
• Identify OFIs that may involve new technologies and software
• Travel requirement 25% +/-
Position Qualifications-
• Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Transportation, Marine Engineering or related discipline
• 2 years maritime industry experience onboard or ashore
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong Microsoft Office applications skills
• Ability to meet internal and external deadlines
• Ability to work efficiently in a structured manner
Preferred Credentials-
• ISO or ISM Code internal auditor training and experience
• Marine risk assessment and incident investigation training and experience
• Familiarity with domestic and international maritime regulations
