Operations Superintendent

WIN Waste Innovations is currently looking for an Operations Superintendent who will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the facility in accordance with all Company policies and standards, under the direction of the Operations Manager or Plant Manager.

Essential Responsibilities:

Responsible for directing and supervising operations staff and other personnel to ensure the facility is operating and maintained in a clean, safe and efficient manner
Maintains and enforces Company policies and procedures, environmental compliance, as well as safety and health requirements
Trains shift personnel in safety procedures and equipment use, plant operating procedures, environmental standards and compliance
Assists in the creation of plant training programs consistent with corporate policies, procedures and requirements, ensuring continued progress in the programs by shift personnel
Assists the Operations Manager/Plant Manager in developing operational strategies to enhance reliability and efficiency
Responsible for the enforcement and administration of all programs requiring a permit
Makes daily inspections of buildings, machinery and equipment; inspects ongoing activities for safety and environmental compliance, and for adherence to standard operating procedures
Performs administrative functions such as; conducting performance appraisals, completing disciplinary forms, accident and equipment damage reports, reviews and corrects time records, documentation of attendance and tardiness, and maintains employee performance event logs
Creates work requests through the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
Develops and maintains plant operating data and reports, plant operating and emergency procedures
Serves as management's representative during periods when upper management is off-site
Writes reports, business correspondence, and operating procedures as required or directed by facility operations
Decisively and effectively directs personnel during all situations
Completes the Corporate and Plant Training Programs within the timeframe prescribed
Fosters and promotes a culture of teamwork between operational staff and all other plant personnel
Ensures the facility is operated to meet or exceed production demands at minimum costs
Ensures that the facility and all personnel always operate safely and promotes an environment whereby safety is a priority
Ensures staff follows standard safety procedures, corrects safety and environmental hazards
Reads, understands, and applies information such as, lockout/tagout procedures, safety rules, job hazard analyses, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Communicates clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing, using the intercom system, two-way radio, or face to face
Anticipates typical problems, identifies potential or recurring problems, and takes appropriate action
Troubleshoots equipment and assists in diagnosing problem areas
Operates other equipment including, but not limited to, industrial forklifts, man-lifts, skid steer type loaders, and other equipment
Thoroughly and promptly investigates any accidents or near misses in conjunction with management team to ensure that any unsafe practices or conditions are addressed and eliminated immediately
Responds and reports to work during off hours when emergency assistance or repairs are required
Travels to other facilities within the company when additional support is required
Assumes increased, and lesser levels of responsibility when required or requested
Assists with interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent, additional education would be plus
Five years of Supervisor experience in power plant or manufacturing in a comparable role
Knowledge and understanding of the operation, maintenance and control of a steam generating power plant
Proficient in the use of safety equipment, including but not limited to all required OSHA personal and fire protection equipment
Maintains all licenses as required by local, state, federal, environmental and/or health/safety regulatory agencies
Skills, experience, and knowledge enough to acquire ASME QRO provisional license
For all Massachusetts facility's, a 2nd Class Engineers license is required and the applicant must be able to demonstrate the skills, experience and knowledge to sit for a 1st Class Engineers license.

Operate fire extinguishing equipment ranging from handheld extinguishers to 200 lb portable units
Access confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard 12" by 16" manways
PPE Required:

Work in areas under adverse conditions that may require the donning and use of personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, the following with average fatigue:

Negative pressure respirator
Positive pressure respirator
Self-contained breathing apparatus (steel or composite bottle)
Hardhat
Approved safety shoes
Eye protection
Rubber suit and gloves
Chemical resistant suit
Heat resistant outerwear
Flame resistant outerwear
Approved hearing protection
Gloves
Safety harness

Our WIN Waste Innovations facility is currently looking for a Plant Operator who is confident and enthusiastic individual will maintain a safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient boiler operation including maintaining productive boiler combustion, steam flows, and optimize generation, burnout, in-plant power combustion, and flue gas emissions. Monitor plant operational and emissions data. Detect and respond to changing conditions with regard to maximizing plant safety, environmental compliance, and efficiency. Coordinate, direct, and train Assistant Utility Operator, Utility Operator and Assistant Plant Operator and other plant personnel, as required. Perform equipment inspections during outages. As needed, perform physical duties associated with maintaining boilers and various equipment within the plant.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

May lead, guide and direct 2-5 employees to maintain safety and in operation of plant.
As requested, "Fill in" as acting Shift Supervisor.
Education/Experience:

Two years working in a power plant environment as an Assistant Plant Operator (APO) or comparable position; or 5 years related experience or training in power plant environment
Mechanical skills sufficient to perform such tasks as replacement of shear pins, valve repacking, and equipment inspections
Skills, experience, and knowledge sufficient to acquire ASME QRO Provisional license. (ASME: American Society of Mechanical Engineers)
Math skills sufficient to complete required job functions
Knowledge and understanding of the operation and control of a steam generating power plant
For all Massachusetts facility's, a 2nd Class Engineers license is required.
Physical Demand:

Climb and walk on heights often greater than 4 feet
Ascend and descend stairs and stationary vertical ladders as part of normal work activity and emergency egress situations.
Lift moderate to heavy material 50 lbs.
Move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating, wet and muddy areas, and uneven surfaces.
Operate a 1.5-inch fire hose operating at 125 PSI line pressure to the extent required to extinguish fire
Operate fire extinguishing equipment ranging from handheld extinguishers to 200 lbs. portable units
Operate other equipment including, but not limited to, industrial forklifts, manlifts, skid steer type loaders, and other mobile equipment
Access confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard 12" by 16" manways
