Captain Campbell, the cadets, and crew were excited to receive these signal flag messages from 4th grade students at Matunuck Elementary School in Wakefield, Rhode Island.
Signal flags are used to silently communicate with other vessels. Each colorful signal flag is associated with a letter of the alphabet. A series of flags may be used to create a message. Check out their messages below.
Each individual flag also has a specific standard meaning. The flag that Little Buc is stretched out on in the photo below doesn't just represent the letter B, it also has the special meaning, "I am taking in, discharging, or carrying dangerous cargo."
