Meet 4/C Xavier Sequeira, a Marine Engineering, from Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts. That’s right! Massachusetts Maritime Academy is located in Xavier’s hometown.
Xavier attended Bournedale Elementary School, Bourne Middle School, and Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical High School.
Growing up on Cape Cod, the beach was the Sequeira family’s playground. Xavier was introduced to sailing at Bourne Community Boating. BCB provides an opportunity for people of all ages, abilities, and background to enrich their lives through on-the-water educational and recreational experiences. Their primary program is an eight-week long youth summer sailing and marine science school.
Xavier purchased his first sailboat at age twelve with money. Several years later, he added a powerboat to his fleet. Xavier studied Marine Engineering at Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical High School.
His love of the sea and his mechanical abilities lead him to Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
Xavier is thrilled to have two former schools following him and his shipmates during Sea Term 2023: Bournedale Elementary School and Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical High School. He also sends a shoutout to two other schools following from his hometown who are also participating in the Follow the Voyage-Share The Experience Program: Bourne Intermediate School and Bourne High School. Xavier can feel the community support all the way to the Caribbean.
The National Marine Life Center is located in Xavier's hometown, just a short walk from Massachusetts Maritime Academy. It rehabilitates and rescues stranded marine mammals and sea turtles.
