Meet 4/C Luke Kahrimanovic, a Marine Transportation major from Swansboro, North Carolina, a quaint, historic costal town boarding both the Intracoastal Waterway and the White Oak River. The Atlantic Ocean is just minutes away.

Luke attended Churchland Elementary School in Portsmouth, Virginia.  He also attended Broad Creek Middle School and Croatan High School, both in Newport, North Carolina.

Luke developed his love of the ocean at an early age as he grew up on the coast of Virginia and North Carolina. He participated in a club swim team and later competed on his high school swim team for four years.  He earned a spot at regional and state competitions. Luke has been a certified lifeguard for three years. This past summer, he worked as a lifeguard at Fort Macon State Park in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina.    In addition to the beach where Luke worked, Fort Macon State Park features an impeccably restored pre-Civil War fort that offers daily guided tours and frequent cannon and musket demonstrations.

He had various opportunities to board and explore multiple military vessels and installations throughout his dad's career as a US Navy CorpsmanHe graduated from Naval Hospital Corps School at Great Lakes, Illinois in 2009. His duty stations were Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginia and the Naval Medical Center at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. He also served on the Navy’s Hospital Ship, Comfort in 2011 for Operation Continuing Promise and performed humanitarian medical missions in El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Haiti. In 2013, he traveled with a medical team to Gitmo, Cuba to provide specialized care to detainees and Navy personnel.

Luke experienced kayaking and canoeing first through Scouting.

Luke sends a special hello to following from North Carolina and Virginia, the two states where he went to school.  Having grown up in a military family, Luke is happy to have students from Department Of Defense schools and schools on military bases participating in the Follow The Voyage-Share The Experience Program, especially those following from schools on Camp Lejeune, where his dad was stationed.
