Meet 4/C Anthony Cirello, also known as AJ.  He is a Marine Transportation major who calls New Haven, Connecticut home.  He attended Nathan Hale School for his elementary and middle school years.

AJ’s high school years were spent at The Sound School, offering sweeping views of New Haven Harbor.  This unique school on the water prepares students for college, careers, and life in a maritime-focused environment.  AJ’s curriculum included extensive exposure to on-the-water and water-related activities and coursework such as nautical drafting, marine research, aquaculture production, vessel handling, and safety at sea.  The Sound School was the perfect springboard for Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

AJ’s proud mom recalls, “AJ has loved the sea since he was little. For several years he thought he was a pirate! He has enjoyed summers on Cape Cod at his grandmother’s house fishing, kayaking, sailing and being near the ocean.

He has enjoyed sailing, swimming, and boating and attended an aquaculture high school where they spent lots of time on the water. He bought his first Sunfish when he was thirteen years old. AJ enjoyed sailing camp at Mystic Seaport for several summers and spent a week sailing on the Brilliant out of Mystic Seaport.

AJ would like to give a shoutout to all the schools following from his home state of Connecticut.  He is excited to be applying all that he learned at the The Sound School on Sea Term 2023.
