4/C Jake Umberhind is a Marine Engineering major from Monmouth, Maine, a small town with a population of less than 5,000.  Jake did not want to depart on Sea Term 2023 without thanking the students at Monmouth Memorial School for participating in the Follow The Voyage-Share The Experience Program.

“It feels great to have you guys at Monmouth Memorial School participating in the Follow The Voyage-Share The Experience Program so that you can watch me and my shipmates travel the world and learn this winter! To have my small town watch me and what we do down here at Massachusetts Maritime Academy is super exciting.  I can’t wait to have you guys “join” along!"

I am so thankful for the work I did in middle school and high school that has allowed me to come here and have the opportunity to go on Sea Term. I chose to come here to start my path of engineering and STEM back in middle school and high school. Our VEX Robotics Club was the main component that sparked my love for mathematics and engineering because back when I was in middle school it guided me to think technically and problem solve. Ever since then, I have always had a passion for STEM.  That is what has led me to continue my education in engineering. I'm excited to share this experience with you!
