  • Master’s in Education APU, Bachelor of Science in Technology Leadership and Management (Industrial Technology) from Roger Williams University.
  • Senior Chief (SW/AW) Larry Jones is a native of Columbia, SC. He joined the Academy in August 2015 as Lab Assistant for the Engineering Department. He assists and instructs students in professional engineering labs such as refrigeration, auxiliary machinery, diesel engines, steam generators, and gas and steam turbines. Prior to MMA, Larry was a Credentialed Electronic Patient Information Chart (EPIC) Orders Trainer. He provided training to doctors on workflow processes and  participated in South Coast Hospitals "Go Live” event.
  • Senior Chief Jones enlisted in November of 1988 and attended recruit training and Machinist Mate A School at Great Lakes, Illinois. His first duty assignment was onboard USS Wainwright (CG-28) where he completed his Engine Room Messenger and Distilling Plant Operator qualifications.  Following USS Wainwright, Senior Chief Jones completed two more sea duty tours onboard USS Sierra (AD-18), and USS Mt Baker (AE-34). Senior Chief Jones then was assigned to Naval Support Facility Groton, Connecticut, followed by sea duty assignments onboard USS Detroit AOE-4), and USS Seattle (AOE-3) where he attained his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS) qualification. In 2003 he reported to the Surface Warfare Officer School (SWOS) Command, in Newport, Rhode Island, where he served as a Steam Instructor.  During his tour at SWOS Senior Chief Jones was designated a Master Training Specialist and awarded Instructor of the Year, and Sailor of the Year. In 2007, following this successful, he reported aboard USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7), where he attained his Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW) qualification and his Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist (EAWS) qualification. In May 2010, following Recruit Division Commander (RDC) School in Great Lakes, Illinois, and Senior Chief Jones reported for duty as a Senior Enlisted Leader at the Naval Academy Preparatory School, Newport, Rhode Island. As a Mentor and Advisor, he personally trained over 900 future Naval and Marine Corps officers.  After graduating the Senior Enlisted Academy, Senior Chief Jones reported for duty August 15th, 2013 to the USS Ross DDG71, where he successfully lead a undermanned engineering department through the inspection cycle, achieving all grades above the fleet average and contributing to a successful Foreign Deployed status in support of the Ballistic Missile Defense.
  • Current Job: In March 2022, Senior Chief Jones joined Student Services as 5th Company Officer. He mentors, leads, guides, supports, instructs, advocates and develops OUR future into responsible positive impact leaders.
  • His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two gold stars), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two gold stars), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (one silver- star), and other unit, campaign, and service awards. Senior Chief Jones is married to the former Gayle Gomes of New Bedford, MA.

Background:​

Wayne Magee is a native Ohioan, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree, cum laude, from  Youngstown State University’s “Dana School of Music”. During his time at YSU, he was privileged to perform in the University's Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble and the YSU Marching Pride.

Wayne later earned a Master of Science degree from Northeastern University in Boston. His music career began in working with the community youth touring field and concert band, the "Warren Junior Military Band". Wayne has had the privilege of serving on the instructional marching band staff at the high school level as well as serving as a trumpet instructor at the elementary and intermediate levels. Wayne is a freelanced trumpeter, music educator, and music conductor. He has guest conducted ensembles of all levels - ranging from elementary through college.

Wayne is a proud Eagle Scout and holds professional memberships with the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA), the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), and the National Band Association (NBA). Wayne has been working in the University of Massachusetts system, serving at Massachusetts Maritime Academy since 2008, in the Residential Life and Student Services department as the administrator in charge of the "7th Company" student dormitory complex. Wayne also has the distinct honor of being the longest serving director of the "Pride of the Regiment ", the Regimental Band, Honor Guard, and Drill Team. The "Pride of the Regiment" under his stewardship has garnered national acclaim performing annually in Boston, New York City and Washington D.C. coupled with numerous invitations to perform internationally. 

Wayne is a passionate leadership and personal finance consultant, advising leaders on developing others within their organizations, as well as, internal and external best practices on effective communications coupled with strategic planning.

Wayne is also a published author of the book entitled "Tough Blows: A Lifelong Journey of Defying the Odds", as well as a published essayist. He has written on topics ranging from diversity, professional career development, personal growth to personal finance.

Lauren Murphy was a four year member of the Buccaneer women's soccer program from 2010 to 2013. In her time in a Buccaneer uniform, coach Salem scored 18 career goals, leading the Bucs in goals scored in her freshman (4) and senior (9) seasons. Of those 18 career goals, five were game winners, including three in her senior season. In her final year at Maritime she was named Captain of the team.

Murphy graduated in the Spring of 2014 with her Bachelor's Degree in Marine Transportation. Following graduation, she shipped out with the Master Mates and Pilots Union, of which she is a member.

Prior to coaching, Lauren was a player on the Olympic Development Program for both the state of Massachusetts and the North East Region. She played club level soccer where her team was finalist for the state cup 3 times. During her senior year of high school, she led her team to a Bay State Games Championship.

After four years on the ocean, Lauren has decided to come back and find a job shoreside and work with the program she dedicated so much time to as a Cadet at the Academy.

LCDR Ed Pinero joined MMA in January 2011 as Assistant Director for Student Services and assigned as 6th Company Officer.  His assignments include Director for Orientation, Coordinator for MMA’s Intramural Program and Sea Term’s

Terminal Operations.  Ed also dedicated 3 years as Assistant Coach for MMA’s football program.

Prior to MMA, Ed was the Director of Transportation for Transpro LLC, Malden, MA.  Transpro LLC is a statewide transportation company with 14 Regional Operation Centers throughout Massachusetts. 

Ed is a 2011 graduate of CONNECT, Southeastern Massachusetts Public Higher Education Collaborative Leadership Development Program, holds a B.A. in Secondary Education from the University of Puerto Rico, a commission as a US Army Officer from the ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Program) and is a graduate of the Army’s Combined Armed Services Staff School- Command and General Staff College.  He retired as an Army Transportation Officer with 20 years of service in October 2003. 

Ed has over 30 years of transportation experience both in the US Army, as a Transportation Officer, and in the private sector where he held various management positions in transportation and distribution with Target Inc., Pier 1 Imports Inc., Office Depot Inc., and CVS pharmacy in California and Rhode Island. 

During his 20 years as an Army Officer, he served in the Transportation Corp, “The Spearhead of Logistics”.  Ed’s responsibilities included the planning, directing and executing of US Department of Defense (DoD) and Foreign military operations worldwide involving the use of all modes of transportation to include rail, water, air, and surface.  As a young Captain, was selected for command of the 368thTransportation Terminal Service Company in Ft. Story, Virginia Beach where he received numerous accolades for his units’ participation and performance during DoD exercises in Honduras, Turkey, Hawaii, Philippines, Korea, and Japan.  During Operations Desert Shield & Desert Storm in the early 90’s, Ed served as Transportation Advisor to the state of Arizona’s Army National Guard and US Army Reserve transportation units deploying to and from Southwest Asia.

A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico and resident of Centerville, MA, where he lives with his wife Julie Ann.   Ed has 3 children; Eddie (30), Ali (26), and Michael (24).
