For over 100 years, Massachusetts Maritime Academy has been preparing women and men for exciting and rewarding careers on land and sea. As the nation's finest co-ed maritime college, MMA challenges students to succeed by balancing a unique regimented lifestyle with a typical four-year college environment. As a member of the cadet corps you will live, study, sail, work and play in an atmosphere that encourages you to be your best.
Students who score less than 243 on the Accuplacer
Your score of less than 243 indicates that there are gaps in your quantitative reasoning skills and you are not prepared for College-level mathematics. If you do not opt to take a college course in Intermediate Algebra before attending MMA, you are urged to complete the online ALEKS program, "MMA Prep for Algebra/Trig Summer 2019". The deadline for completion of ALEKS is July 26, 2019. The deadline will not be extended.
If you do not complete ALEKS, or take a college Intermediate Algebra course, you will be limited to a 12-credit course load in the fall.
ALEKS is a self-paced computer tutorial program, intended for highly motivated, self-directed students. It has been designed to meet the needs of students entering Algebra/Trig at MMA. Participation in the ALEKS tutorial program is voluntary. It does not lead to any course advancement, nor does it provide course credit. What it does provide is help with the math skills needed for success in Algebra/Trig.
The program for which you will register has been selected by the math faculty at MMA. Your progress through the program is monitored by the math faculty at MMA.
The ALEKS course is designed with 148 topics, each of which is essential prerequisite knowledge for Algebra/Trig.
You are allowed unlimited hours to complete the ALEKS program. However, the subscription you purchase is for a 6-week program. If you do not complete ALEKS within the six weeks, you may purchase another 6-week subscription, and continue your work. The ALEKS program will end on July 26, 2019.
If you choose this option, you must show mastery of all 148 topics AND successfully complete the 'Goal Completion Assessment' at the end of the ALEKS Program. The ALEKS program ends on July 26, 2019. All work must be completed by that date. The deadline will NOT be extended.
The cost of the program is $40 for a 6 week subscription.
Use course code: DCE3Q-VWF9T (you will purchase the 20-digit access code during the registration process) and register for the 6 week short course. Be sure to register for THIS course, not any other program through ALEKS.
