To provide asset management and technical expertise to ensure safe and effective operation, maintenance, and reliable delivery of natural Gas to our customers. Asset infrastructures under this team management includes regulator stations, take stations, transmission mains, large customer meter fits, flow diagrams, valve replacements, and other MISC work associated with the distribution system.

The position will encompass a range of responsibilities includes providing risk management and technical support for I&R and Transmission projects and ensure related work are in compliance with company, State, and Federal policy and regulatory requirements. In addition, the individual is responsible for ensuring other RI Energy business units are provided with the appropriate technical expertise to meet strategic planning.

Provide oversight and risk management of regulator stations, take stations, large commercial/industrial metering.
Plan, design, and provide support for the execution of these projects
Incorporate applicable Standards, Procedures, and State/Federal statutory requirements into Gas systems designs including all safety, health and environmental standards and procedures.
Identify/specify special order (non-stock) required materials. 
Technical expert to support projects in its entirety, including estimating and permitting or in their specific expertise and provide professional engineering certification (PE Stamp as applicable).
Provide technical assistant on reports in accordance with Regulatory requirements and Company needs
Independently collate and analyze data within one area using pre-determined tools, methods and formats in order to support the department’s decision-making process
Execute instructions and requests, plan and organize resources and make appropriate arrangements to ensure that work is carried out efficiently and in line with relevant policies and processes
Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team of both technical and non-technical professionals
Provide operational engineering support, including participation in the afterhours on call support for OE on a rotational basis with other team members.
Manage and review Weld Book accuracy.
Manage and review material traceability records for new projects and for previous built projects with MAOP over 100PSIG.
Manage all Assets over 100 PSIG.
Participate in Storm restoration activities or other system emergencies (gas and electric) as called upon.

A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Industrial, Electrical, or Computer engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, both internal and external.
Previous engineering experience including experience in natural gas distribution systems and gas infrastructures is preferred, but not required. Entry level candidates will be considered.
Knowledge of OSHA, PHMSA, Federal DOT and State Codes related to the natural gas as well as applicable industry codes is preferred, but not required.
Strong computer skills
Strong organizational skills, ability to adapt to change, and desire to consistently learn and improve
Ability to thrive both independently and/or as part of a team, depending on what the task at hand calls for

NOTE: Employees selected for this classification will be required to participate in federally mandated drug testing programs prior to selection, randomly on a year round basis, after an accident and for reasonable cause.

This position is open to entry level Engineers but will be filled at the appropriate Engineer level based on the successful candidate's background and experience. 

Conduct engineering studies, analysis, and investigations, under supervision, in order to determine issues associated with specific DER and load interconnection applications and recommend corrective action to prevent problems.
Independently gather, model, and analyze data using pre-determined tools to perform the engineering studies.
Plan, organize, and execute the engineering studies efficiently and in line with relevant policies and processes.
During the studies, communicate with internal and external stakeholders to provide status, preliminary findings, and final results.
Participate in department reviews to improve modeling and analysis techniques for all criteria and evaluations, particularly in relation to customer interconnections.
Support government and regulatory data requests and filing, particularly in relation to customer interconnections.
Prepare/develop protection models using ASPEN or CAPE software.

Candidate Qualifications  

Candidates must meet the basic qualifications and pass all required tests or assessments to receive consideration. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility form upon hire.

Basic Qualifications 

Engineering Degree earned from an ABET accredited school.
Electrical Engineer preferred.
Working towards/holder of the Registered Professional Engineering License.
Knowledge of The Narragansett Electric Company’s business operations, company policies and practices preferred.
Knowledge and experience in an electrical engineering environment, preferably a utility.
Good written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a matrix management environment.
Demonstrate a basic understanding of distribution line design, substation design and protection, controls & integration, and metering schemes.

Engineer

Bachelor's Degree in engineering or engineering technology from a college or university.  Discipline required will vary by the specific job requirements.

Support Engineer

Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology discipline.  In lieu of degree, applicants who have PE license in the state of Rhode Island will be considered.
Minimum of 2 years of related experience.

Senior Engineer

Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology discipline.  In lieu of degree, applicants who have PE license in the state of Rhode Island will be considered.
Minimum of 5 years of related experience.
Working knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards for the specific position.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrate a basic understanding of distribution protection schemes.  ASPEN or CAPE software experience preferred.
Ability to perform distribution load flow analysis.  PSSE and/or CYME experience preferred.
Analyze/recommend protective device coordination and equipment interrupting ratings.
Analyze grounding, anti-islanding, fault sensitivity, and transient conditions for interconnections.
Review customer protection scheme and verify acceptable settings for energization.
Prepare/develop three-phase balanced load flow models using PSSE software.
Prepare/develop unbalanced three-phase radial distribution models using CYME software.
