Massachusetts Maritime Academy Dedicates Dominion Energy Classroom, Celebrates Scholarships
Dominion Energy Millstone Power Station creates four new scholarships

BUZZARDS BAY, MA, WATERFORD, CT, ISSUED NOVEMBER 6, 2025…On October 8, Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA), a top-ranked public university with undergraduate degree programs focusing on science, engineering, technology, math, and business that blend academics and experiential learning, inaugurated the Dominion Energy Classroom, cutting the ribbon at Harrington Hall Room 108.  Sponsored by Dominion Energy Millstone Nuclear Power Station in Waterford, Connecticut, the company also announced the creation of four new scholarships for Academy cadets.

The Dominion Energy Millstone Nuclear Power Station Scholarship Fund awards $5,000 each to two incoming freshmen from Connecticut with a demonstrated interest in marine engineering, facilities engineering, or energy systems engineering majors.  Two scholarships of $5,000 each for  junior and/or senior marine engineering, facilities engineering, or energy systems engineering majors from New England are also included in the fund.

Dominion Energy’s Millstone Power Station produces enough electricity to power 2 million homes and provides New England and Connecticut with round-the-clock, low cost, and carbon-free electricity that helps the state fulfill carbon-reduction goals.  In addition to providing inexpensive, clean, reliable electricity, the station also supports almost 4,000 jobs, produces over $1.5 billion in annual economic benefits to Connecticut, generates the equivalent of nearly half the electricity consumed in Connecticut and more than 90% of the state’s carbon-free electricity, and prevents 8.3 million metric tons of carbon dioxide from being released each year.

Dominion Energy, headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, provides regulated electricity service to 3.6 million homes and businesses in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, and regulated natural gas service to 500,000 customers in South Carolina.  The company is one of the nation’s leading developers and operators of regulated offshore wind and solar power and the largest producer of carbon-free electricity in New England.  The company’s mission is to provide the reliable, affordable, and increasingly clean energy that powers its customers every day.

“We’re thrilled to strengthen our partnership with and support of Massachusetts Maritime Academy,” said Alex Trespalacios, plant manager of Millstone.  “The Academy prepares their students like no other institution in terms of practical training and hands-on exposure to a range of technologies needed in our industry.  Cadets and alumni are ready to work together, whether it is an internship or full-time job; and we are proud to invest in this organization.”

“We are grateful to the commitment shown today by Dominion Energy and their Millstone Power Station,” said Rear Admiral Francis X. McDonald, USMS, president of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. “This commitment will have an important and immediate impact on our cadets, helping them to be better prepared to contribute to the nuclear industry almost immediately.

“We look forward to what the future holds for this continued partnership,” continued Admiral McDonald.
