The Supervisor for Electrical & HVAC is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the operations of critical systems while leading and developing a team of technicians. This role focuses on ensuring adherence to environmental, health, and safety (EHS), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), and other regulatory standards, providing training, technical support, and leadership to the team, and actively seeks opportunities improvements for electrical distribution and HVAC systems.
What You’ll Do
• Manages a team of technicians with maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility and equipment failures, air handling units (AHUs), chillers, cooling towers, CTUs, VAVs, exhaust systems, and refrigerant equipment (cold rooms and environmental chambers).
• Develops a team of electrical & HVAC technicians fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
• Ensures preventative, predictive, corrective, and all other related activities are completed accurately, on-time, and in a cost-effective manner.
• Enforces compliance with CGMP, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Electrical Code (NEC), and other regulatory standards.
• Identifies opportunities for process or system improvements and partners with stakeholders to implement strategies.
• Participates in cross-departmental meetings to provide technical expertise to technicians and other stakeholders.
• Prepares systems for emergencies, including power outages, fire alarms, and adverse weather events, as needed.
• Supports site operations and handles emergency work orders outside regular working hours, as needed.
• Enforces all company policies (e.g., time off, shift work, inclement weather) that directly impact employees.
• Completes required administrative tasks (e.g., timecard approvals, time off requests, expense reports, etc.).
• Participates in the recruitment process and retention strategies to attract and retain talent.
• Performs other duties, as assigned.
Knowledge, Kills, or Abilities
• Advanced knowledge of HVAC/R systems, electrical theory, controls, troubleshooting, and automation.
• Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) or other data tracking software.
• Effective communication, both written and oral.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, P&IDs, wiring schematic, and one-line diagrams.
• Knowledge of cleanroom environmental controls, PLCs, MCCs, VFDs, and industrial automation systems.
• Strong understanding of NEC, NFPA, 70E, and CGMP electrical standards.
• Willingness to coach, lead, and develop a team.
• Ability to effectively present information to others.
• Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma methodologies or other continuous improvement techniques.
• Must be able to support 24/7 manufacturing facility, including shift, on-call and weekends.
Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma/GED with 8+ years of experience in electrical, HVAC or related field; OR,
• Associate degree in electrical, engineering or related field with 6+ years of electrical, HVAC or related field.
• Previous experience leading, supervising, or managing others.
• Prior experience working in a GMP environment.
Preferred Qualifications
• Associate’s degree in electrical, engineering, or related field.
• Experience in large pharma / biotech operations or project.
• Experience in manufacturing / biological products with GMP / GLP requirements.
• 1+ years of people management experience.
• Experience in project management or leading cross-functional teams.
• Lean Six Sigma.
• BioWork Certificate.
• Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certification (EPA 608 Certification).
