Schedule: Seasonal (May – October); generally Wednesday – Sunday, 10 AM – 4 PM
About the Role
East Norwalk Blue is seeking a Pumpout Boat Operator to join our team in protecting the Long Island Sound. As an operator, you will navigate a dedicated pumpout vessel to recreational boats to safely empty their sewage waste tanks. This is a critical environmental role, ensuring that local waters remain a "No Discharge Area".
Key Responsibilities
Vessel Operation: Safely navigate pumpout boats in various weather and wind conditions.
Pumpout Services: Respond to mobile requests and VHF Channel 77 hails to empty vessel sewage tanks.
Customer Interaction: Communicate professionally with boaters and leave service confirmation cards on board.
Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on the vessel and pumping equipment to ensure clean, operational conditions.
Record Keeping: Log the number of gallons pumped and send email confirmations upon completion.
Requirements
Certifications: Valid Connecticut Safe Boating Certificate or Certificate of Personal Watercraft Operation (CPWO).
Experience: Prior boat handling experience and knowledge of marine engines/pumps is preferred.
Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb boat ladders, and maintain balance in choppy waters.
Skills: Ability to operate a VHF radio and use mobile apps/tablets for data entry.
Availability: Ability to work weekends and holidays during the summer season.
