PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Working under the supervision of our Safety Director, the Safety Specialist will:
- Perform regular site visits of active projects to ensure compliance with the Safety Plan
- Assist in the development of project safety documents for field operations
- Develop and review the Accident Prevention Plan (APP); Write Job Hazards Analysis (JHA)s, as directed and/or needed. Provide onsite safety training and education
- Work as a team member with project management, quality control, subcontractors and other personnel to ensure cooperation and adherence with safety inspections, corrections and compliance
- Assist with investigation and recording accidents and workmen's compensation claims
- Maintain record keeping documents as required by OSHA and prepare and research safety needs and expectations
- Promote a positive safety culture throughout the organization

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Have completed and earned the OSHA 10 hour safety certificate in construction
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, primarily construction standards
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and iAuditor
- Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
- Ability to handle multiple priorities, efficiently and effectively
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
- Have means of transportation to and from jobsites located in the greater Boston area

Pay Range:
$31.25 - $36.06

This Central Utility Plant Operator will be critical in the operational delivery and support of a state-of-the-art life sciences campus within the Boston, MA area, and will have an immediate impact on bringing multiple complex systems online over the next several months. This first—class operation starts with its supporting team members and provides a collaborative, positive, and technically challenging environment that champions professional growth.

MAJOR FUNCTION:
The CUP Operator provides vital support for building operations and maintenance, ensuring smooth functioning and continuing operation. This role involves inspections, testing, and preventative maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and automatic temperature control equipment. Additionally, this role will assist in system design and functionality discussions and be an integral part of a growing team.

Job Responsibilities:
Work in a cohesive team environment to maintain 100% uninterrupted utilities to R&D.
Operate and maintain high pressure boilers, chillers, generators, air compressors and cooling towers.
Works nights, weekends, holidays and cover overtime requests for vacations.
Complete preventative and corrective maintenance in accordance in line with operation manuals, diagrams, sketches, and manufacturers' specifications to increase reliability and useful life.
Perform water chemistry sampling, analysis and treatment in accordance with guidance from the Chief Engineer and water treatment vendor.
Record all pertinent data in building logbooks and makes all appropriate daily entries.
Record pertinent data on all equipment in accordance with site, federal, state, and local codes and requirements.
Oversee contractor and vendor in accordance with site policy.
Effectively communicate with the owner and Chief Engineer on work performed and the present status of the buildings and mechanical systems.
Stay updated on changes in field safety and codes through seminars and other educational means.
Provide technical support for projects and develop materials lists for ordering.
Respond swiftly to emergencies, troubleshoot, and repair issues.
Perform general housekeeping of mechanical/electrical rooms, including sweeping, mopping, and carry out routine repairs related to Carpentry, and general maintenance and assist all other trades as required.
Completes work following UG2's Standard Operating Procedures and Work instructions.

Requirements (Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Education and/or Experience):
High School Diploma or equivalent, plus three to five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proficiency with water chemistry sampling, analysis and treatment for boilers, cooling towers, and
Working knowledge and experience with industrial piping/plumbing, high pressure boiler operation, chiller plant operation, HVAC, instrumentation & controls, power generation and electrical troubleshooting.
Wastewater Treatment License or the ability to achieve within six months.
Deep level of understanding of building management.
Reliable and professional.

Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to read, interpret, and apply safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Bachelor’s Degree in Facilities/Marine/Power Systems Engineering preferred.
Basic math skills, including algebra and geometry.
Basic computer skills including internet usage, email systems, electronic manuals, and online learning.
Minimum of three to five years of hands-on experience in the MEP field.
Ability to complete the required company training.
Flexibility to work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Great communicator and positive personality.
Eager to grow within a team and to understand in-depth critical building systems.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Active MA Second Fireman license or higher is required.
OSHA 10.
Hot Work certified, preferred.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, remain stationary for extended periods of time, and perform daily physical activity including, but not limited to, climbing ladders, navigating multiple sets of stairs, and moving from room to room to inspect the physical condition of the building as required.
Availability to respond to after-hours emergencies as necessary.
