Voyage Plan

Voyage Plan FY2025 & FY2026

This document publishes the Academy’s two-year action plan for the future of the university. It begins by reaffirming the mission statement and by laying out the university’s vision. It concludes with the five overarching Governing Principles that constitute the attainable goals and steps needed to attain those goals. It then incorporates the MMA Trustees’ approved Tactical Objectives for the Academy and adds the performance metrics that are needed to support this plan for the next two years. The Voyage Plan, updated annually, is the result of many meetings with the multiple stakeholders of the Academy, culminating with a two-day campus planning session (held during the summer) that involved the entire senior staff of the Academy. Each fall, the newly approved plan is submitted to the All University Committee and feedback is sought the following spring in order to prepare the subsequent plan. Throughout the planning cycle, all of the stakeholders are represented and all are invested in the achievement of these goals. This document reflects community-wide perspectives and across-Academy commitment to the achievement of these goals.

Consistent with the Board of Higher Education’s Strategic Plan for Racial Equality, we continue to strive for an inclusive and accepting environment, where all members of our community feel welcome regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, age, socioeconomic status, geographic origin, or veteran status. We believe that a successful climate emerges from successful recruitment initiatives, which attract talented prospective cadets, staff and faculty from across our Commonwealth’s many cities, towns and communities. As importantly, we know that our success also depends upon retaining talented new members by making them feel at home in the MMA campus community. While the Captain Paul Cuffe Center for Inclusion (Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) leads many efforts in this realm, we have made a community-wide commitment to inclusivity that crosses every division and department.

Over the past decade and a half, MMA observed a steady rise in its enrollment largely due to its special mission status and strong return on investment. Like many other institutions, the pandemic has disrupted this trend. We are very optimistic, given the size of the fall 2024 freshman class (approximately 500 students), that our enrollment will grow over the next few years.

We have a lot to look forward to in the next few years. Our new STEM building, upgraded labs and new training ship, the Patriot State II, are all due to be complete by 2026. As we look over the bow, it is clear that it will be an incredible voyage for the Commonwealth’s Leadership University.
