The F/V Bountiful is seeking an experienced and reliable Mate to join our crew for pot cod fishing operations in the Bering Sea. This is a leadership position requiring strong supervisory skills, maritime experience, and the ability to work effectively in challenging conditions. The successful candidate will serve as second-in-command under the Captain and play a crucial role in managing both crew operation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Deck Operations

Oversee all deck crew activities during fishing operations

Supervise the setting, hauling, and maintenance of cod pots

Ensure proper handling and processing of catch

Coordinate with Factory Manager on production operations

Maintain deck equipment and gear in optimal condition

Crew Management

Supervise and coordinate activities of approximately 20 crew members

Serve as primary liaison between Captain and crew

Handle crew-related issues and conflicts as they arise

Interface with Factory Manager to resolve operational concerns

Ensure crew compliance with safety protocols and work standards

Navigation and Safety

Assist Captain with navigation duties and watch standing

Maintain vessel safety standards and emergency procedures

Conduct safety meetings and equipment inspections

Ensure all crew members follow safety protocols

Assist with vessel maintenance and repairs

Administrative Duties

Maintain accurate logs and records

Assist with crew scheduling and work assignments

Monitor compliance with fishing regulations

Coordinate with shore-based operations as needed

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

Minimum 3-5 years commercial fishing experience

Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred

Experience with pot fishing operations highly desirable

Alaska fishing experience a plus

Certifications

Valid STCW Basic Safety Training certificate

Current medical certificate (physical within last 2 years)

Valid identification documents for employment verification

Drug and alcohol testing compliance

Skills and Abilities

Strong leadership and communication skills

Ability to work effectively under pressure

Physical capability to handle demanding maritime work

Problem-solving skills and sound judgment

Ability to work cooperatively with diverse crew members
