Emergency Management Undergraduate Degree

The Emergency Management Program provides our students with a well-rounded science-based education leading to a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management. Our curriculum is designed to educate our students on emergency management and disaster related issues faced by individuals, families, businesses, local and national governments, and globally. Our graduates find career opportunities in the public and private sectors. Recent E.M. graduates have gone off onto careers with federal, state and local government, with law enforcement, fire service, the military and with numerous private businesses and industries.

The Emergency Management program requires students to complete two co-ops and one 6-week practical experience that takes place during summer or winter breaks.  Many students complete several co-ops.   Freshmen EM students will participate in our Habitat for Humanity Experimental Learning Trip.  Participation is required for all EM cadets who are freshmen or who transferred to MMA in the Spring.  You may read more about this by clicking on the Experimental Learning Trip link in the menu on the left side of this page.

FACULTY SPOTLIGHT: ERIC CARON

Eric Caron currently is an Adjunct Professor at Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Teaching Transnational Crime and Cyber-Security.

Eric Caron recently published his book, "Switched On: The Heart and Mind of a Special Agent".  Eric is a former U.S. Diplomat, U.S. Special Agent and  former HSBC Middle East Bank Executive who successfully initiated and managed covert operations that identified and disrupted Iranian, Russian, and Chinese Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) programs. Also directed anti-money laundering, terror financing, and transnational crime cases involved in drug smuggling, human trafficking, and intellectual property rights (IPR) violations. He has held senior positions within Home-land Security Investigations and INTERPOL. Eric’s accomplishments have been highlighted by media outlets from around the world. He received the U.S. Attorney General’s Award for his “Endeavors in furthering the interest of US National Security." He is currently a homeland security analyst for Channel 7 News in Boston, MA. Eric’s efforts are exemplified in the very first Department of Justice prosecution of several executives who illegally provided a defense service and exported controlled U.S. technology to former Russian military facilities. The imported finished Russian technology was subsequently sold to the US Military. In addition, Caron arrested a former dean from Moscow University and his Belarus business partner who were attempting to acquire US F-15J radar equipment.  As the former Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Attache in Dubai, Eric was responsible for preventing Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) from entering the U.S. and from being illegally acquired by Iran. In addition, Eric also led money laundering, transnational crime, and national security training for UAE, Oman Police, and Customs Officials. He also traveled to Afghanistan to lead an anti-money laundering and corruption seminar.

Eric concluded his career as the Resident Agent in Charge, HSI/Providence, RI, where he directed the state’s largest counterfeiting investigation, resulting in the seizure of over $1 million of counterfeit sporting apparel from the NBA and NFL. In addition, he oversaw the successful prosecution of more than a dozen child pornographers.

As a twin in a large Massachusetts family with a heart of gold, Eric wanted to emulate his hero when he grew up—his Police Officer father, Sgt. Edmond Caron, a former Marine. Eric’s dad taught him valuable life lessons that formed his foundation and defined his path, and experience taught him the rest. With his family’s courage, love and guidance inspiring his journey, the author became renowned as an expert in the field of terrorism, money laundering and transnational crime. His investigations ranged from U.S. defense contractors and CIA going rogue, to WMD programs of Iran, China and Russia, to fire and intrigue in Dubai and Afghanistan. His most challenging case would be a mere mile from his family home, and grip the nation. Throughout his twenty-five-year decorated career as a Special Agent and Diplomat for the U.S. Government, Caron discovered the powerful, life-saving effects of listening to one’s heart, mind and God-given instincts. The author came to think of this principle as being Switched On. Join this Special Agent as he takes you on a ride-along filled with twists and turns and reveals the key to becoming Switched On for life.

Eric is a graduate of Northeastern University, and is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering
Specialist (CAMS). He enjoys traveling and is a fitness enthusiast, completing a marathon and triathlon. He is also a Mix Martial Artist.
