This jurisdictional position is primarily responsible for conducting in-service jurisdictional inspections of boilers and pressure vessels in the Greater Boston/Boston Metro West area. The ideal candidate would be located geographically in this territory.

Based on experience, candidates will be considered for Jurisdictional Consultant I and II.

Responsibilities

The Boiler Inspector (Jurisdictional Consultant) learns and develops the skills required to manage, inspect, evaluate, and confer with Clients. These inspections are conducted within the requirements of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, the Rules of the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors, and The National Board Inspection Code, jurisdictional laws and regulations. Also, FM programs, procedures, and instructions. The inspector will be supervised by the Operations Chief Inspector.

The inspector will receive the necessary FM procedural and field training to be competent. In addition, this position performs inspections of varying scope at low exposure locations and occupancies to eliminate or mitigate hazards.

Travel approximately 30%.

Qualifications

Education: Depending on an individual's experience and other factors, the inspector will have a BS in Engineering, an associate degree from a 2-year technical school, or a high school diploma (or equivalent).
Desired: An individual that already has National Board and state certifications, be qualified to review repairs in accordance with the NBIC and FMIC requirements!
Required: The position requires the individual to meet National Board In-Service commission qualification requirements Rules for Commissioned Inspectors (RCI-1 NB-263). Acquire a passing score on the National Board Exam and meet State requirements. The individual must acquire a National Board Commission and certification from at least one jurisdiction within 12 months of entering this position.
Experience: The crucial experience for this position is that required by the current National Board Rules for Commissioned Inspectors to acquire the initial National Board Inservice Commission (IS). Experience in boiler and pressure vessel construction, operation, and inspection, mechanical and electrical equipment, understanding of management systems and good understanding of nondestructive methods and results are vital.
Skills/Knowledge: Strong overall technical knowledge in the boiler and pressure vessel construction and inspection industry, good communication and listening skills, efficient time management and organization, problem solving skills, basic computer application skills, ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) supports the Boston Medical Center Health System (BMCHS) Facilities Department by developing, implementing, and maintaining industrial hygiene programs across BMC-South, BMC-Brighton, and associated satellite clinics. Reporting to the Executive Director of Facilities Management, the role conducts indoor air quality (IAQ) assessments, USP 797 sampling, exposure evaluations, and environmental monitoring to ensure a safe and compliant environment for patients, staff, and visitors. The position operates with general supervision and collaborates closely with Facilities, Occupational Health, Infection Prevention, and departmental leadership. The CIH divides time between both campuses and may occasionally support BMC Main as needed.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

Manages industrial hygiene programs by developing and maintaining system‑wide procedures, conducting exposure assessments, and overseeing air sampling, noise monitoring, and ventilation evaluations.
Identifies and mitigates workplace hazards by evaluating environments for chemical, biological, physical, and ergonomic risks; recommending engineering and administrative controls; and supporting infection prevention through environmental monitoring.
Ensures regulatory compliance and accreditation readiness by maintaining documentation, preparing for surveys and audits, and implementing corrective actions aligned with federal, state, and local requirements.
Supports Occupational Health and OSHA response activities by investigating exposures and injuries, developing corrective action plans with stakeholders, preparing documentation for OSHA inquiries, and analyzing trends to identify systemic risks.
Conducts IAQ investigations by performing ventilation assessments, environmental monitoring, and root‑cause analyses; communicating findings to stakeholders; and recommending corrective actions to resolve and prevent IAQ concerns.
Performs ergonomic assessments by evaluating workstations and job tasks, identifying musculoskeletal risk factors, recommending ergonomic improvements, and providing training to support injury prevention.
Delivers industrial hygiene training and education by developing instructional materials, presenting safety topics such as chemical safety and respiratory protection, and collaborating with staff to reinforce safe work practices.
Leads incident investigations and emergency response efforts by assessing occupational exposures, spills, and environmental incidents, and providing technical guidance during emergency situations.
Coordinates industrial hygiene activities across campuses by maintaining a consistent presence at BMC‑South and BMC‑Brighton, standardizing procedures, and partnering with site leadership to address location‑specific needs.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Occupational Health, or a related field and 3–5 years of industrial hygiene experience in healthcare, laboratory, or similar environments
Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Master’s degree in a related field and experience in hospital or accredited healthcare environments, including familiarity with Joint Commission standards.

Compensation Range:

$78,000.00- $113,000.00

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. The Role

The Construction Safety Specialist partners across the business to support AvalonBay’s Corporate Safety & Health program.

This role is hands-on and based on active construction sites to ensure compliance, identify risks early, and keep jobsites operating safely. You’ll work closely with construction teams, vendors, and internal partners to drive a strong safety culture and prevent incidents before they happen.

What you’ll do:

Monitor job sites for compliance with AvalonBay safety policies and all local, state, and federal regulations

Conduct and document safety inspections; ensure required corrective actions are completed

Stop work when necessary, due to immediate safety risks and partner with teams to resolve issues

Investigate incidents and safety concerns; document findings and recommend improvements

Review safety submittals and provide practical feedback to strengthen plans

Analyze safety data and trends to identify risk areas and drive improvements

Build relationships with field teams, vendors, and contractors to reinforce expectations and accountability

Lead or support safety training and ongoing education as needed

What we’re looking for:

3–7 years of safety or related experience, or relevant education/training

Background in construction, EHS, engineering, or a related field strongly preferred

Working knowledge of OSHA standards and general safety regulations

Ability to identify hazards and drive practical, on-the-ground solutions

Strong communication skills—you can work effectively with field teams and hold the line when needed

Comfortable working in a fast-moving, field-based environment

Nice to have:

Bilingual (preferred, not required)

OSHA 30 (or willingness to obtain within 90 days)

CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days)

BCSP or other safety certifications

Physical / work environment:

Regularly on-site at active construction communities

Able to navigate jobsites (ladders, stairs, uneven surfaces)

Occasionally lift/move up to 50 lbs

Able to wear required PPE at all times

Travel between sites as needed
