Staff Associate, Academic Resources (Specialty Advisor & Academic Coach)General Responsibilities
General Statement of Duties: The Specialty Advisor & Academic Coach housed under the Academic Resources Center, takes a lead role in working with students with academic accommodations and assisting with students on Academic Recovery.
Position Responsibilities:
- Engage in proactive advising and support on a continual basis for students with accommodations and on academic recovery.
- Work with the Associate Dean of Academic Resources on identifying those students with accommodations.
- Collaborate with the staff of the Paul Cuffe Center and other departments on campus to ensure wrap around student support.
- Creating and facilitating engaging academic support workshops throughout the Fall and Spring semesters that focus on executive functioning, study skills, and time management.
- Assist with general advising duties in the office, as needed.
- Providing direct support for students in areas including, but not limited to: degree planning, add/drop/withdrawal, student support resources, change of major requirements and planning.
Qualifications and Requirements
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, or equivalent
- 2 years’ experience in academic advising, academic coaching or equivalent
- 2 years’ experience in K-12 or Higher Education working with students with accommodations: either writing IEPs for K-12, assigning accommodations in higher ed, or working with the MAICEI program
- Experience preparing and leading workshops for academic success/support
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Proficient computer skills and extensive knowledge of Google Suite and the ability to manage and maintain spreadsheets for the ARC
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with academic program software and advising software such as Self Service, DegreeWorks, etc.
- Experience with learning management systems such as Blackboard
- Understand the unique mission of the university as a maritime academy
