General description of duties: MMA is looking for an experienced mariner to provide instruction and training to Marine Engineering and Marine Transportation students on various STCW topics including vessel security for VPDSD license endorsements, and safety and survival for Lifeboatman/Survival Craft license endorsements. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience in conducting STCW assessments, with or without simulation and requires the instructor to be familiar with USCG, IMO and STCW training and competency assessment procedures.
Qualifications and Requirements
Specific minimum qualifications and requirements: Applicants for this position must hold or must have held a mariner’s credential, or have significant related maritime experience:
- USCG Third Mate Unlimited/OICNW; or
- USCG Third Assistant Unlimited HP/OICEW; or
- USCG Master/Mate 1600 GRT Oceans/OICNW; or
- 3 years of closely related experience in the professional maritime industry
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Transportation, Marine Engineering or related field.
- Recent experience teaching or in professional service in the maritime industry
- Experience with assessment of student learning
