Part time Marine Transportation FacultyGeneral Responsibilities
Instruct college level courses in a variety of Marine Transportation. Preferred specializations include navigation, ship-handling and shipboard safety, seamanship, watchstanding, and pollution awareness. Potential course taught may include Electronic Charting and Display (ECDIS), Advanced Shiphandling, Basic Seamanship. Massachusetts Maritime Academy follows a “Learn-Do-Learn” model, where our hands-on simulation labs and classroom experiences enable our students to “apply” textbook knowledge in the field. The instructor will teach cadets in the basic concepts related to safe navigation and seamanship.

Qualifications and Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Transportation or related field; Masters Preferred
- Hold a Third Mate license with current Standard of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) qualifications.
- Have at least three years of full-time experience in teaching at an accredited institution of higher learning, or have three years of service in a professional maritime field time (or a combination thereof)
- Possess an understanding of teaching in the university setting
- Exhibit excellent oral and written communications skills
- Understand the unique mission of the university as a maritime academy
