Motor Equipment Mechanic IVGeneral Responsibilities
General responsibilities: Responsible for the safe operation of all internal combustion engines assigned to the department, and all systems associated with the same. Advises supervisory personnel of the need for parts and supplies and the status of assigned equipment. Responsible for the operation and repair of yard and shop vehicles and equipment assigned to the department and performs repairs of any and all equipment assigned to the department as specified by the Marine Director. Assist as required in the everyday operation of vessels and equipment used in the training of students. Instruct students in the proper methods of engine operation and maintenance, of all internal combustion engines, including outboards. Assist in the hauling and launching of vessels as directed by supervisory personnel. Position is designated as “essential personnel” and requires participation in the Academy’s random drug testing program in accordance with 46 CFR Part 16.
*Shift and Area of Assignment: Monday –Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Qualifications and Requirements
Qualifications:
- Four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the repair, maintenance and overhaul of automobiles, trucks, bulldozers, cranes, front end loaders, etc.
- Two years in a supervisory capacity
- Any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions of a certificate or diploma from a recognized trade, technical or vocational school at the high school level or above with a major in automotive shop practice may be substituted for one year of the required (A) experience.
- Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class 2 Motor Vehicles Operator’s License.
- Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class C or hoisting license.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Requirements:
- USCG Merchant Mariner Credentials with rating of Ordinary Seaman or Able Seaman (or ability to obtain)
- Experience as a outboard engine mechanic
- MA Hoisting Engineer License (or ability to obtain)
