General Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Maintain several marine science laboratories including wet labs with large holding tanks, plumbing systems, and various pumps.
- Maintain systems for research cruises on small vessels, including underwater camera system, sensors, sediment grabs, plankton nets, and microscopes.
- Support of student and faculty research in the lab and on the boats in coastal waters.
- Assist with data management as needed.
- Hold administrative responsibility for equipment and supplies, including maintenance of equipment, keeping an accurate inventory, and ordering supplies.
- Conduct safety audits, particularly ensuring chemicals are stored and disposed of according to safety regulations.
- Assist with animal husbandry in tanks and around docks.
- Set-up and break-down various undergraduate lab experiments and activities on a weekly basis throughout the fall and spring semesters.
- Be comfortable working in an outdoor setting, sometimes in inclement weather, aboard boats, in wet labs, and around docks.
- Have ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to teach college-level laboratory science courses as needed (up to 3 credits per semester).
Qualifications and Requirements
Qualifications:
- Hold Bachelor of Science degree with three or more years of directly related experience.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of pumps, filtration systems, and marine related sensors.
- Display excellent communication skills.
- Have basic computer skills.
- Be willing to take on new duties as lab and research vessels needs change
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Have familiarity with aquaculture techniques, particularly in a hatchery setting.
- Have prior experience in a science laboratory and/or on a research vessel.
Salary
$ 66,000- $72,000
