General Responsibilities

The basic purpose of this work is operate heavy power-operated equipment such as backhoes, front-end loaders and bulldozers used in the construction, maintenance and/or repair of highways, parks, etc.; operate heavy dump trucks, snow plows, sanders, tractor-drawn mowers and other equipment for highway and grounds maintenance; operate light vehicles such as passenger cars and panel trucks for transporting personnel and materials; perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment; maintain records and prepare reports; inspect contractual services; and perform related work as required. This position is designated as essential personnel.

Qualifications and Requirements

Qualifications and requirements: Applicants must possess the ability to communicate in an oral and written manner. Applicants must possess physical stamina and endurance including the ability to lift and carry heavy objects up to 40 pounds, stand or walk for extended periods of time, and climb and work from ladders. Ability to operate a motor vehicle and heavy power-oriented equipment used in excavating, grading and related maintenance activities. Knowledge of types and uses of snow removal and ice control equipment. Ability to read and interpret documents such as plans, specifications, blueprints, drawings, schematics, job layouts, etc. Must possess a valid Massachusetts Class 3 Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

Shift and Area of Assignment: Monday –Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.* (*Initial training schedule only – subject to change according to Administration).

Salary

Biweekly: $1,894.66 (Group 13/Step 1) / Annual: $49,261.16 (Group 13/Step 1)
