General Responsibilities

The basic purpose of this work is to perform various manual tasks required for the routine maintenance and cleaning of the buildings and grounds of an educational campus. Incumbent primarily performs tasks of a janitorial, custodial, or housekeeping nature. Depending on the needs of the facilities department, they may at times also perform grounds keeping or maintenance tasks such as trash and snow removal, landscaping, moving furniture, making minor repairs, and the operation of machinery and vehicles. Incumbents of this position also maintain necessary inventory and maintenance records in addition to preparing written reports of work performed. Position is designated as “essential personnel.”  Related duties may be assigned as required.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must possess the ability to communicate in an oral and written manner. Applicants must possess physical stamina and endurance including the ability to lift and carry heavy objects, stand or walk for extended periods of time, and climb and work from ladders. Based on assignment, applicants may be required to operate a motor vehicle and therefore must possess a valid Massachusetts Class 3 Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in building custodial or institutional janitorial work. An Associate’s or higher degree with a major in forestry or landscape architecture may be substituted for one year of the required experience, with education towards such a degree prorated based upon proportion of requirements completed.

Salary

Biweekly: $1,803.41 (Group 13/Step 1) / Annual: $46,888.66 (Group 13/Step 1)
